Do you think it sensible to make Bin Laden videos a global talking point ?

As much as I realise they will surface anyway, it seems odd to me that the press want to make the videos freely available and effectively promote the man by doing so. Surely if fewer were to take any notice (obviously authorities will continue to monitor output) there would be fewer instances of peope wanting to join him ? I am interested in how people feel about it.

Update:

So can I assume that most would prefer freedom of speech over terrorism ?

No. giving them air time is like giving them oxygen

  • We saw the hanging of Saddam and are used to cruel contents on our screens.

And after we've seen so many videos of Osama bin Laden already - whose mind would he change today?

Questions are: Is it the real Osama bin Laden - and when has the tape been made.

But the tape doesnt speak to the masses. Decisions were taken long ago and the audience is mature enough.

The lines are drawn, therefore not much new impact the video will have. Except Osama would break with his past soft-spoken appearances and announce something solid.

Is highly unlikely though, just expect a sign of life of him - and yes, he looks quite healthy and stronger than back in 2001 when he had this grey face and looked tired.

For one thing, I don't believe that the tapes are original or genuine, one way or another. The U.S. is the one who starts promoting it widely and openly. I also have a feeling that Bin Laden is dead, and has been dead for quite some time now, so any tapes that come out that have him on them aren't real. How could they be, when he's dead? Also, since it's coming from the U.S., it should be obvious who forged it. That's just my opinion though.

Yeah, it does give the guy free worldwide publicity and helps build his sick fan club. But I think that the people that are following him were probably already on their way and he just kicks it up a notch. He also unites people who aren't his fans in a common bond of hatred towards him. The man has more enemies then supporters, so bring on the videos. They do him more harm then good.

What about freedom of speech? Probably better than reading and listening to the right-wing rubbish i keep getting thrown at me every day.

No... I dont think Videos should be available for all to watch. I think that we should forget about him.........Making his Videos Public would make his day & by doing so the press would just be giving him the satisfaction he wants!! Crazy!

It would be a ridiculous thing to do!

    (edit)

We all know about the Vids...........Why do we have see them! Seems like a sick Idea to me!

terrorism's main goal is recognition, in that essence I believe you to be correct. the whole terror color scale created by bush's homeland "security" promotes terrorist by scarring the American public. the best defense for terrorism is ignoring it, if it doesn't scare you it has failed

No, I don't think any terrorists should be given free publicity.

It is exactly what they want.
