Do you think the "Book of Life" and "The Lamb's Book of Life" are the same book?

In Revelation 20:12 it says, "And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books."

Obviously, "The Book of Life" is opened, but what about the other books that are opened, is the "Lamb's Book of Life" one of them?

I'll share what I think later.

Update:

Schneb: Don't worry brother, that's why I said I will share what I "think" later, not what I "know".

Update 2:

Ok. Here's my "thoughts" and I am not saying this is the absolute way it is.

I think they are separate books, because one is called the "Lamb's" book and the other is not. Yes the scriptures say our name can be blotted out of "The Book of Life", but it never says it can be blotted out of "The Lamb's Book of Life". I think the difference is this: God the Father owns "The Book of Life". He writes the name of every person He ever created in His book. Jesus, the Lamb of God, owns "The Lamb's Book of Life". When someone accepts Jesus Christ as Savior, He records their name in His book. Now at the judgement, "a book was opened which is The Book of Life, and books were opened." I think that one of these other books is "The Lamb's Book of Life". "Woe to the man whose name is not found written in the Lamb's Book of Life." I think it is a balancing of the books that is taking place. Any name not found in the "Lamb's Book of Life" is erased from "The Book of Life" and both books now match.

They may be the same. There is nothing to say that they are not. However, Moses mentions "the Book God has written" in Exodus 32:32, which eludes to the Book of Life. It may just be that the Lamb's Book of Life contains only the list of names that were part of the "church period", however, the Book of Life is also mention during the seven letters to the churches. So really, there is nothing much that distinguishes the two. So don't come off with some sort of doctrine on this.

There are 3 books. (1) The "Book of Life" in which every person born in the world is recorded. (2) The "Lamb's Book of Life" in which every person is born again by the way of Christ and the Cross is recorded. (3) The book in which our works for Christ are judged from which we are rewarded accordingly.

I am once more quoting excerpts from another commentary: "Revelation - what the Bible Teaches" by J. Allen:

"The book is the same in all the NT passages quoted. This is the heavenly register of all believers in Christ.

With reference to Revelation 3:5, Mr. Allen quotes F. A. Tatford: "Practically every city of that day (Sardis) kept a roll or register of its citizens. In that record was entered the name of every child born in the city. If one of the citizens proved guilty of treachery or disloyalty, public dishonour was heaped upon him by the expunging of his name from the register. On the other hand, one who performed some great exploit deserving of special distinction, was honoured by having his name inscribed in golden letters in the citizen's roll. Our Lord's emphatic statement, therefore, implies not merely that the name of the overcomer shall not be expunged but per contra that it shall be inscribed in golden letters in the heavenly roll" (Prophecy's Last Word p.62). In this way the Lord fastens upon a feature of their civic background to stress the honour to be gained by the overcomer in such difficult circumstances."

I need hardly add anything else. I only want to praise and thank God that my name is written in heaven. (Luke 10:20).

    Yes .

The Book of Life is mentioned throughout Scripture.

I think the first mention is by Moses in Exodus 32:32

Moses made intercession for the nation of Israel in these words:

"But now, please forgive their sin—but if not, then blot me out of the book you have written."

Yes--It is my understanding that the Book of Life and the Lamb's Book of Life are the same book. And No, one of the "other books" is not the "Lamb's book of Life," for the "Book of Life" IS the "Lamb's Book of Life."

The “Book of Life” is the figurative expression of the blueprints, keys, commands, and instructions to create life and to assure that all things arrive at the eternal purpose for which they are created—i.e., happiness. This handbook, a kind of Cookbook of Life And Happiness is followed by all Creators in preparing solar systems and planets for human habitation. It provides instructions and power needed by these Celestial Beings to bring those created through the three stages or “estates” of eternal development.

Our first estate of existence (the beginning) is an individual spirit state. It is one composed of elements of matter that can record experience on a molecular level, but which cannot be seen by the natural eyes of those in their second estate. The second estate is the mortal and corruptible body to which the spirit body of element is assigned to inhabit for testing, probation, and determination of that which brings happiness to the individual.

The third estate is the physical, incorruptible body prepared through the advanced technology and blueprints found in the “Book of Life,” rendering death of the body impossible—this is the resurrection.

The purpose and end of all life and creation is to exist forever in happiness, a state otherwise referred to by prophets as “salvation” or “eternal life.” It is not in God’s plan to allow us to have eternal bodies and live on eternal planets unless we can do so without causing problems for each other. Therefore, it is not possible to obtain an eternal body until we can prove by the way we live in mortality that we can be trusted not to be a problem to our fellow beings in the third estate.

...The “books” that “were opened” are what is written in the “scrolls of heaven,” which are an accounting of our works. Our experiences will be compared with the eternal laws and order of heaven, which are written in “the Book of Life.” The laws and order of the Universe are eternally established, and will always be as they always have been forever. If our works do not conform to what is written in the “other book that was opened, which is the Book of Life,” we will judge ourselves with remorse and embarrassment (“punish her double”).

...The formula for happiness is as eternal as the elements. The “Book of Life” is symbolic of the ingredients for this formula. The ingredients are the way we treat and associate with each other (our works/“names”). Those who serve us (God and His angels) will provide all things we need in order to live and be happy. Our only responsibility is to do unto others what we would have them do unto us. Those who cannot abide this Royal Law “shall in no wise enter into the New Jerusalem,” the city of happiness.

  • I think i would agree with the two books being different... coz during judgement, jesus needs his own notes to testify before the father.... him that confesses me b4 men i will confess b4 the father
