Are there ways of getting into the habit of drinking more water?

For almost my entire life, water has been the nastier to me than cough syrup. Don't know why, but the more i get older, it gets a tad bit better. Well now, I have long term gastritis, and my skin stays super dry...any ways of getting into the habit of drinking more water?

Update:

whoa..best question i ever asked..lol

well i got a filter on my tap...

i bring no money with me to work so i can drink the water out the big office water thingy that people stand around and chat at...lol...

idk..i just got really pissed off because i got two new pimples on my face...(luckly im on break from college...by myself..with no females around..so i can be pissed by myself)

so im really in the need to drink more water i guess

Update 2:

I like water fountain water, sometimes bottled water and filtered water..

I drink a lot of koolaid..but i've been finding my skin really dry (especially because im black so my skin gets ashy right after i put on lotion..)

so i know there is something wrong there...

Although I like water I know many people that don't and a lot of this has to do with the water that they get from their tap.

Is is all water that you don't like? Meaning have you tried filtered water or bottled water and still don't like those either? If you haven't tried a water filter you may want to invest in one. You can get simple ones that attach to your tap that are inexpensive and others where you fill a pitcher and keep them in your fridge. If you tap water sucks this may be the perfect option for you.

The other option is using the flavored waters. There are so many now. Many that you add to your own water and some that come in bottles.

I sip water all during the day and when ever I go to the bathroom I make sure that I drink as much water as I have just peed out. This way I am always sure to take more in.

You can also freeze flavored water into ice pops and flavored ice cubes. Some times the different shapes and textures plays tricks on your mind and you may find that you enjoy it more.

Some that I know pour their daily amount of water into a big bottle and then make sure that they finish the bottle by the end of the day. This lets them keep track of how much they actually drank, since we all have a tendency to think that we drank more then we actually do.

How about adding some cough syrup to your water. (kidding)

Adding a few drops of lemon makes it more palatable for some.

However pure water is one of the most neutral substances there is. Is it really that it tastes bad to you or is it that you miss a certain taste?

If your local water supply isn't pure enough, try getting a filter either on your tap or one of those Britta jugs to keep in your fridge.

In the end though, like starting any healthy habit, you gotta just do it and your body and tastes will adjust. I drink tons and tons of just plain tap water every day and I know that it is good for me in many ways.

Try Crystal Light added to the water. They have tons of flavors, they add very little calories if any, and they taste great. They even come in single serving packets that you pour into a bottle of water. The easiest way to drink lots of water each day is to have it with you. If it is with you, it is easy to pop the top and take a swig, but if you have to go looking for it, I don't think you will. Good luck.

I don't like plain water either. I have to force myself to drink water too... But I do love the Clear Fruit flavored non carbonated waters. You really only need about 4 to 6 8 oz glasses a day... except for hot days or when you expend a lot of energy like in exercising. Then you do need more.

    Best wishes

There are other ways to get water into your body. Many fruits and vegetables contain a high content of water. There are some flavored waters, but be careful to choose ones that are not loaded with sugar or sodium...try carrying a cup or bottle with you wherever you go...once you get in the habit it will become second nature to refill your bottle multiple times a day.

Make sure it is ice cold (I can't drink warm water, it tastes disgusting to me). Don't have any other drinks in your house except bottled water. Buy a filter for your faucet (so you get the mineral taste out of the water). The only other advice I have is just buckle down and drink it. You could add Crystal Lite or something to it, but I think that tastes more disgusting than warm water, so...

Get a water filter for one, some water really is just nasty. Try adding a vyer thin slice of lime or lemon to the glass to give it a tiny bit of flavour.

Great tip is to have a bottle of water on your desk at work - fill it up when you get there and empty it out at night then leave it to dry

The way I did it was I stopped buying anything except bottled water, so I didn't have anything availabe to drink except water. I would go to the refrigerator wanting a coke, but guess what, it wasn't there. It was kinda' frustrating at first, but I got used to it, and now I don't even miss it.

Even when I go out to eat, I order water. You will get to where it is just natural to you.

    Good Luck!!

you can try mixing with some cordial, that's what I do as I don't like the taste of the water where I live. You can slowly increase the amount of water when you get used to it. Have a bottle with you at all times (work, school, gym).

add flavor to the water if you dont like the taste. i carry a water bottle everywhere i got. i keep one in my car, in the fridge at work, and several at home. i tell myself that unless i am eating a meal....i drink water anytime i am thirsty. but i like the taste of water so it will be harder for you. but i would just suggest adding flavor...there are so many things like Crystal Light, or you could even buy the flavored water in packs now if you would like that better.
