Is there such as a thing as Groomzilla?

I've heard plenty of bridezillas, but have you been or have dealt with a Groomzilla? Please compare and contrast citing specific examples.

You better believe it! I had one groom who took control......like by the neck. Even the brides dress was chosen by him. It was pretty intresting planning the ceremony with this couple. My bride had little to say......which was a red flag for me. After getting her to open up a bit, she was able to get her ideas out. We did the ceremony the groom chose, but she added an memorial for her parents and the Rose Ceremony. This groom designed the cake, made the menu, found the music, and MC'd his own reception. A very unusual wedding to be sure. Chaplain Debby

Groomzilla probably takes a different form from a Bridezilla. Either they are incredibly anal about money spent, or they are uninvolved to the point of barely getting dressed and showing up.

Men haven't been indoctrinated from infancy that there is going to be a banner event called My Special Day When I Get To Have Everything The Way I Want It Because It Is MY WEDDING DAY!!!, like women have!

I've only seen it on TV, and the ratio doesn't compare....many more bridezillas then groomzillas. But a groomzilla is just as bad if not worse than his counterpart, you can put money on that!

I think a Groomzilla would be more worried about how the money is being spent, especially if the couple is paying for the wedding themselves. He is involved, but it's because he wants to make sure they are getting the best bang for their buck, and that the bride isn't buying unnecessary things.

Yes, any control freak who helps to plan his own wedding can become a Groomzilla. I feel like I've seen a few of them on TV, yelling at waitstaff and getting angry that the flowers didn't look like what they wanted.

The Washington Post magazine just had an article on a guy who helped plan his own wedding and he acted like kind of a jerk about it and also spent a ridiculous amount of money.

I'm sure it happens from time to time, but I really doubt they get as bad as the brides. Besides, most of the time a groomzilla would be grief for the bride, not the wedding planners etc.

    I think so.

My BF & I are discussing getting married and he has definite opinions of how a wedding should be - - like the look, the meal, etc. I could imagine a guy like him that is unwilling to compromise would be a groomzilla.

For example, my BF wants a sit-down dinner when we get married. To him, a buffet-style dinner isn't appropriate for a wedding. I really don't care so there's no argument there.

I think there can be. With my fiance and I, he and are working very closely together with the planning (I'm a lucky girl to have a man so interested in the planning!). There are certain things that the groom traditionally handles- like the formalwear for him and his guys and the ushers, as well as working with his side to organize the rehearsal dinner...and I could see how a groom-to-be could become pretty uncompromising about seeing to it that those particular things are just so.
