Why would my baby refuse her formula?
My 5 month old daughter has been taking formula while I am at work and she is with her babysitter. Yesterday she started to refuse the formula...when I picked her up and took her home she of course wanted to nurse. When she woke up this morning I tried giving her a bit of formula and she still refused it. She is taking baby cereal and water but I am concerned. Why would she suddenly refuse to have her formula?
I understand she wants to nurse rather than formula from me, the problem is she is refusing to take it from the sitter...
She has been taking formula since she was 2 months old as a supplement to her nursing...

Probably cuz she doesn’t like the taste of it - i hear breast milk is much sweeter.... but did she taste it and refuse it or just refuse it from the beginning? She may not like the formula but watch her for ear infection symptoms - the bottle sucking may hurt her ears if she has the start of an ear infection. Just something to think about and watch for but its probably the taste :)

She's at an age now where she can tell the difference between the you and her babysitter and your breast and a bottle. She just prefers you and your breast. And it is true that breast milk is sweeter than formula. I would buy a breast pump so that way your sitter can at least feed her your breast milk from a bottle. Also, try to find nipples that are very similar to the breast nipple. Mix her baby cereal with either your breast milk or formula. Babies as young as your daughter really don't need just water. She get's plenty of water from your breast milk as well as the formula. An ear infection or sore throat could also be possible. Especially if she's teething. Try holding her more upright when feeding her a bottle and see if that seems to help. I would also give her Dr. a call just in case it is an ear infection or sore throat.

Because if you are still nursing, which it sounds like you are, breast milk is sweeter and easier for her to digest. When a baby learns to tell the difference, they usually prefer breast milk. Do you have a pump that you could use to express milk? A pump will be cheaper than formula in the long run.
Sometimes we forget that breast milk isn't just about the nutrition. Nursing means that you're closer together, that she gets to suckle from you, which is extremely relaxing and reassuring to her. If you are away from her for a time during the day, it's only natural that she'd want to spend that close skin to skin, eye to eye contact you get from nursing.
My second baby was like that, he would even wait until I got home to eat rather than take a bottle.
Edit to add:
The other thing it could be is a growth spurt. My children often refused a bottle from their caregiver, even if it was filled with breast milk, when they were going through a growth spurt. It's like the know they have to nurse from you to get you to make enough milk for their growing needs. Just something else to think about.

If she is used to only getting formula from the sitter, she wouldn't like it if you gave it to her cause that would mean to her that you aren't nursing her! She just wants the breast from you most likely and nothing else!!

Babies start showing preferences at this age and can usually start eating other types of soft foods. Be happy that she is weening herself naturally. I have you ever smelled formula its disgusting! & if you nurse her from time to time. I wouldn't worry about it. As long as you're mixing your milk or the formula in her cereal, she's getting the nutrition she needs.
Try soy or rice alternatives. She may be allergic.
