I love Thoreau quotes! We are but a small piece of a big jigsaw puzzle! There's so much more to this universe than just little ole' us! I like those pictures that show a picture of people on a street-up to looking down on earth-to looking at the solar system, milky way and into infinity...that's where we live amongst all the billions of other masses floating around out there!

we've a tendency to imagine of guidelines as being only, yet many circumstances interior the previous there have been guidelines that were no longer in worry-free words unjust yet disadvantaged human beings of their rights. Examples of those guidelines are the guidelines that required that someone be of a particular sex and race with a view to vote interior united states of america of america. only because this is the regulation would not propose this is ideal or only. Even at present we are required by utilizing guidelines to pay taxes that couldn't help what we assume of is ideal or only or we may even see criminals pass loose because of guidelines which aren't from now on only. Thoreau puzzled what he idea-about as an unjust regulation and favourite to pass to penitentiary extremely than obey it. We talked about examples of that in the '60s interior the US or perhaps see it at found in circumstances consisting of South Africa.

I think it reflects how in our perspective is focused on our immediate area- our homes, our neighborhoods, cities, countries- how narrow our spheres of existence are. Things that happen far away don't affect our day to day lives, a flood in china, poverty in Zimbabwe, and yet, this earth is just a tiny part of a vast universe so grand in its scope.
Carl Sagan reflects on this in a book "Pale Blue Dot":
"The Earth is a very small stage in a vast cosmic arena . . .Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe, are challenged by this point of pale light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark. "

It means that, although huge to us, the size of the earth is infinitely small when compared to the infinite size/vastness of the universe of we humans are such a minute part.
In mathematics a point has a position in space but has no measurable dimensions.!

the size of the earth is insignificant when compared to the universe. it is a quote that shows the theme of relativity.

That we are "dust in the wind," an opinion I do not agree with. "is but a point" is the diminutive of "our point exists." I have little regard for people who diminutize our "point." We have a good and great "point," and we are capable of doing many good and great things BEFORE we become dust. It is our memory of ourselves with which we must live, so do those good and great things, do not think your best is only "dust in the wind."

we think we are important, we and our problems, however if you look at the earth from space it's only an insignificant point

Everything is insignificant in the big picture. So are we.

that we are just one tiny little planet in a huge universe and we're not as important as we think we are.
