    BEFORE TIME WAS

    ~A Wiccan Creation Story~

Before time was, there was The One; The One was all, and all was The One. And the vast expanse known as the universe was The One, all-wise, all-pervading, all-powerful, eternally changing. And space moved. The One molded energy into twin forms, equal but opposite, fashioning the Goddess and God from The One and of The One. The Goddess and God streched and gave thanks to The One, but darkness surrounded them. They were alone, save for The One. So They formed energy into gases and gases into suns and planets and moons; They sprinkled the universe with whirling globes and so all was given shape by the hands of the God and Goddess. Light arose and the sky was illuminated by a billion suns. And the God and Goddess, satisfied by Their works, rejoiced and loved, and were one. From Their union sprang the seeds of all life, and of the human race, so that we might achieve incarnation upon the Earth. The Goddess chose the Moon as Her symbol, and The God the Sun as His symbol, to remind the inhabitants of Earth of their fashoniers. All are born, live, die, and are reborn beneath the Sun and Moon; all things come to pass thereunder, and all occurs with the blessings of The One, as has been the way of existence before time was.

I honestly dont lay claim to any one version of events.

    We are humans.

Why do we think we should know what happened billions of years ago? Why do some think that this knowlege was not lost? There is no accurate version of events and anyone claiming to know is lying.

OK the version I believe in is:

The gods (some say just our gods(Scottish Celtic) but others (including myself) think all the ancient gods always existed-or if they didn't then where and when the came into being has long since been forgotten.

They decided to use their powers to make something,so working together they created the universe.Later they created the Earth and then created the first animals and plants to live on it.They enjoyed watching and interacting with their creation for a long time, sometimes changing things or adding a new creature or plant or taking away 1 they were bored of or occasionly changing the weather but mostly letting the animals and plants skill-or lack of skill-at surviving decide whether their kind continued to live.

Eventually they decided to to make something a bit different using themselves as a base and so,after a few attempts Humans and the Human-like creatures like Elves were created. They were given a greater ability to manipulate the world around them than any other creature before had been and the gods watched to see what happened-though they still interacted with their creations too and taught them many things. Each group of gods taught their own races of humans different things which is why there are so many different human cultures.

They are still watching and interacting-no-one knows what will happen next.

Please note that unlike the Christian creation story our version does NOT contradict science-it doesn't say HOW the gods created the universe so it could have been a big bang. The gods prefer to let a living things own ability to survive-by changing a bit if needs be-determine whether it does which works with evolution and natural selection. We believe that other attempts at creating a mortal creature in the image of the gods happened before we were created (and possibly after too)which could explain animals that look a bit like people such as apes and monkeys.

The universe created the gods, not the other way around. The gods did contribute a great deal, but not all on thier own.

I don't see why science and religion can't get along. IMO, Godd created the laws of science, thus Godd is responsible for the Big Bang.

Ask 5 different Pagans & you'll get 8 different answers.

Personally I prefer the "Big Bang" theory myself.

    park is full of crap.

There is no creation myth inside wicca. Its one of the reasons why wicca accepts science so readily.
