It's to keep the water clean and safe. But you could also try a new tap, one that has the purified water? Also, get water from your fridge, if you have that. It tastes better. :]

Yes it is safe to drink you silly dingbat. The chlorine smell is *drumroll* Chlorine! It's in very small amounts to disinfect the water. Tap water is VERY safe to drink. Bottled water and filters are a giant waste of money and horrible for the environment.

Because chlorine has been added to the water to kill the bacteria and make it safe to drink.

Because chlorine is added to kill germs and such, and therefore, comes through the tap

they add chlorine to drinking water to kill bacteria, but what they end up doing is putting too much in. it's really not good for you.

It's the filters they put in it to remove the bacteria.
