How many people know this about illegal immigration?
I don't like the fact that our government has allowed an unlimited supply of cheap labor to come into our country any more than the rest of you, but how many of you realize what would happen if all the illegal immigrants got sent home today? How many of you know what would happen if you got your fondest dream and all the illegal immigrants got rounded up and sent home in one glorious flag-waving day? Do you realize that there would not be any milk in your store by the end of the week? Do you realize that a large percentage of American dairy cows would die in their free stalls from mastitis? I'm not saying this country has to be dependent on multi-thousand cow dairies that can't exist without illegal Hispanic workers. But right now it is. So maybe we should fix that before we start picking on hard working Mexican and Guatamalans.
I am not saying Americans won't milk cows--that is a bunch of crap spewed by the affluent liberal class, who themselves cannot imagine wanting to work hard. But cows have to be milked at least twice a day every day or they will die in a fairly short period of time, or at the very least have their udders completely destroyed by infection. And as it stands now, there isn't any plan in place on the ground to deal with the reality of what happens when a work force is instantly removed from an economy. Work forces don't form over night. Even if most Americans were willing to milk cows, most of them would have to be trained. It's not brain surgery, but it isn't easy, either. For the record, I have milked cows for a hell of a lot less than 50 bucks an hour. If I could have gotten that, I'd still be doing it.
To the gentleman who is a dairy farmer--it is quite possible that all of YOUR workers are legal. Quite a few hispanic dairy workers are here legally. But if you are in the industry, you know a huge percentage are not. Dairy farmers don't have a lot of time or resources to devote to authenticating documents and/or SS#s that they receive. There are a lot of dairy farmers who have done what the law requires as far as filling out paper work, but that doesn't mean all of their workers are legal. I've never met any farmer who hadn't filled out paperwork on his workers, and all the workers are paying into Social Security, whether they are legal or not. There aren't any dairy farmers paying workers illegally under the table. But if you read the industry journals, you know that there have already been farms that have been raided and had critical chunks of their work force suddenly removed. If this happened on a very wide spread level at one time, it would cripple the industry for the short term

Yes, you are right. We can't remove illegal aliens without knowing where their replacements are coming from. It turns out that many of our U.S. citizen underclass would gladly do illegal immigrants' work if they knew where these jobs were and had free transportation to the job site. Some minor inexpensive workplace modifications might also have to occur such as a federal job bank, job sharing, better working conditions, and maybe $2 or $3 more per hour. The expense would easily be offset by increased productivity. So, in the long run, the taxpayer saves money by having more citizens in the work force who are currently on some sort of welfare, and less illegal immigrants who cost the taxpayers billions more than they save business. In other words, we already have enough of a CITIZEN underclass that sucks up our hard-earned taxpayer dollars. We don't need similar people in terms of sucking up entitlements who in addition don't even speak English.
BTW, illegal immigrants comprise 5% of the U.S. workforce. Unemployment is 4.7%. Underemployment is over 10%. .Half of these unemployed and many of these underemployed would take these low paying jobs under the above terms.. A realistic goal then is a 50% reduction in the U.S. population of illegal immigrants by 2010. . .
If we had a total of 16 buses per hour carrying illegal aliens across the 2000 mile border, in one year 3 million would have ave been deported.

Not true indeed. John McCain said that Americans would not do these jobs even if they were paid $ 50 a hour. The next day he was flooded with job applications from American citizens. Wages will go up for everyone. I'd rather pay more for food than the billions we are paying out of our taxes. The farmers want illegal aliens because they can pay them peanuts. They are not needed to do the actual work.

A bunch of cows will die of mastitis, so we should tolerate 30 million illegals in our nation? Do you think they all work in dairy farming?
I can do without milk. But I can't do without a nation that is run by law and that rewards workers with a living wage instead of allowing illegal aliens to keep the jobs that Americans used to do.

I will agree that we would be hard hit at first.....no doubt. However, we would bounce back and be better than ever in no time. I do not believe in taking the easy way out with this issue. People need to pay the price for letting this happen to our country. If they go with out milk, and some of there cows die, or whatever, they had it coming by hiring the illegal alien in the first place. Deport them and then we will deal with the lack of milk, car washers, carpenters, and so on and so forth.

Excuse me, but it sounds like you do support the idea of random people wandering into our country from who knows where.
Name one good reason why LEGAL Americans can't take the cow related jobs of those who disrespect our country enough to disobey our laws and not go though the proper immigration procedures.
I can under stand what your trying to say, but it really sound like your whining, Sorry.
Where did you get your information about these illegal dairy farms?

hey Why blame everything to the Hispanic ?
Do you know how much work has been send to China in these months? like i give u an example i know of a factory that is sending because labor is just 12 cents an hour ,,,,,,
and dont forget about India, soooo many employees they work for american companies sales, communication, computer techs,,,,,
so maybe its a good idea to show the door to illegals because now we are the ones that we have to go to the farms and pick up fruit ,,,all other employments are being taken.

We don't need them for any reason other than that we've become reliant on them. If we kicked them out, Americans would take their jobs. They would get paid more, and milk would cost more, sure, but it would be the first step toward the recreation of the American working class... that thing the illegals have stolen by working for nothing...
Don't tell me you'd rather have 30 million illegals in our country than pay another $1/gallon of milk.

There is a 3.5 % Unemployed in the United States from CEO, Professional, Plummers, Painters, Laborers etc not including the chronic unemployed, who don't want to work.
Who is going to do these jobs, Starting at minimum wage of $5.15 per hour, It will not only be the dairy industry but all food stuff across the board. The U.S. does not have the manpower to fill all these positions. Who is going to pay the retirement benefits for the baby boomers? The US 1.6 babies for family has caught up to them, there are not enough workers paying into Social Security to keep it going.

You are so wrong,Im a dairy farmer, and all the emplyees are legal, most hispanics sure,BUT LEGAL!
Also you shouldnt worry so much about mastitis as you should about all the disease illegals bring to this country because they are not immunized, and dont forget about the spread of ecoli.
OH YEA,and dont forget 1/3 of those illegals are in our prisons for multiple crimes, not on the dairy farms.

There are 12-20 million illegals, perhaps somewhat over half of whom are more-or-less permanently employed (others are children, homemakers, elderly, criminals, unemployed, etc).
There are around 8 million unemployed Americans actively looking for work (not quite 5% of 170 million workforce). There are millions more 'dicouraged workers' (who no longer count as unemployed, because they've stopped working), idle youth, underemployed, and the like.
I think we could work something out.
