Is it normal for baby to have body jerks.?

My baby is having severe jerky movements deep in the body that feel like if one had an electric shock. His limbs are also like out of control when this happens. Does anyone know what this might be.

Sometimes as a new born, they get freights easily, they feel like sudden jerks and they often throw their arms out when they get freights also, this can happen when they hear loud noises or when you are holding them and you move, this is normal for new borns, if your baby is a few months old and still doing this, dont hesitate to take your baby to the doctor...! as they say, "ITS BETTER TO BE SAFE, THAN SORRY" your doctor or midwife can reasure you of any worries you might have...!

how old is baby? Newborns cant control limbs yet so their movents are jerky, but houldnt be severe. If you are concerned call NHS Direct on 0845 4647 or you can look at the NHS Direct webiste www.nhsdirect.nhs.uk/ (if you are in the UK) Hope all is ok

How frequent? My daughter also was having body jerks when she was a baby but she grew up to be a normal and beautiful woman. But for you to be sure, if the jerks are unusual and frequent, see a doctor.

I would ring the doctors or thr NHS direct line, just to make sure, if your little one is a new born it could just be that they cant control there movements or they dont feel secure, have you tried swaddling them in a blanket, so there arms are close to their body that way they are secure and they feel the way they did in the womb,

    Good luck xxx

I think it's normal - my babies did this in the womb (especially my second baby) and after birth for a few weeks - it's the startle response which the foetus and new babies have (the baby jumps suddenly and flails arms and legs backwards. The baby is just waking up suddenly.

Don't listen to rubbish about epilepsy - it is normal. Talk to your doctor and I'm sure she'll reassure you.

    Babies do jerk when startled.

If these jerks are frequent and severe then see your doctor. If he were my baby, I wouldn't be guessing the cause. Don't take chances.

Those are indeed electrical impulses sent from your childs brain. See your pediatrician who can help you deal with this issue. It could possibly be diet related, like its allergic to your milk.
