If it is just a nick then you could probably just slap on some triple antibiotic and wrap it up. If it is more than a nick...anything deep at all you should get treated at the hospital. I am really confused...you don't know if you got hurt by a chainsaw or a gun????

A chainsaw AND a gun? You intrigue me no end.
First, disinfect it with iodine or some other antiseptic such as hydrogen peroxide. Then, if the nick is large, cover it with a sterile bandage such as a Telfa pad or large Bandaid.
Try to keep it from getting wet (you don't say where the harm was) for a few days. If you change the bandage, DON'T use more disinfectant as you can introduce infection. If it swells or gets red and sore, see a doctor.

I'm not sure what a chainsaw/gun is, but I assume you were cutting something before you hurt yourself. I agree that ER is the best path, since they can evaluate it for stitches and also consider the need for a tetanus booster or other preventive measure.

Nicked the skin?
Well how bad a cut?
Minor cut, you will heal, just keep it clean!
If part of you is about to fall of, contact 911.
What are you?
I do not think, you should be using a chain saw.
Have you ever considered working in a store?

Keep applying pressure until it stops bleeding and clean with antiseptic cleaner, then cover it, keep it clean and watch for redness around the cut which means infection has started, then see a doctor for the infection.

Disinfectant vital (use only once) for all metal object injuries. Keep wound uncovered if possible until medic arrives. Then use sutures to stop large scar forming.

Wash it with anti-bacterial soap, use Neosporin or any triple antibiotic ointment on it.
