If you oppose the statehood of Israel, do you also oppose Jordan?
... and for that matter, Iraq and Saudi Arabia? Because they were all Arab states that never existed until the last century.
Jordan was created out of 3/4 of the land called the "British Mandate for Palestine." Israel is a tiny piece of what was that Mandate.
So why are no Arabs lobbing rockets into Jordan?
So, Kamran, if Jordan had "the bomb," (which I suppose is what you mean), you would lob rockets in there, too?
The silence is deafening. Can no one answer this?
(((Bobo))) I am so glad to see you. You've been missed.
Anna, you're so right. No one cares what we think. But when did that ever stop us from arguing about it? :-)

Yup, you've hit the nail right in the head. The vast majority of the "Palestinian homeland" is in present day Jordan. But, no, the Arabs don't demand that Jordan be carved up and given away. Palestinians are the largest ethnic group in Jordan and their lives there aren't any better than in the occupied territories.
And, yes, all the borders of the Middle East were drawn arbitrarily early last century...mostly at the whim of the British who more concerned about natural resources and land than they were about people. I mean, come on, putting three diverse and opposing ethnic philosophies into a single country (Iraq)? That was just insane!!!
I think the borders of the entire region need to be redrawn by and for the people who live there. No, it wouldn't be easy...and Baghdad would be another Jeresulem. Both the Palestinians and the Kurds deserve countries of their own (if they can muster the fortitude to do so peacefully).

A second refugee population was created in 1967. After ignoring warnings to stay out of the war, King Hussein launched an attack on Jerusalem, Israel's capital. The UN estimated that during the fighting 175,000 Palestinians had fled for a second time and approximately 350,000 left for the first time. About 200,000 moved to Jordan, 115,000 to Syria and approximately 35,000 left Sinai for Egypt. Most of the Arabs who left had come from the West Bank.
Jordan was the only Arab country to welcome the Palestinians and grant them citizenship (to this day Jordan is the only Arab country where Palestinians as a group can become citizens). King Abdullah considered the Palestinian Arabs and Jordanians one people. By 1950, he annexed the West Bank and forbade the use of the term Palestine in official documents.

Okay, I think those people over there shouldnt get too riled up over land. They already all have their own countries, give the Palestinians an area which they govern, and they should all grow up already. I am for everyone, I am not one to pick sides since a) i am not from there and b) jumping on one side is unfair to the other side, and vice versa. Maybe these folk should just sit down, have a plan, try to get along this conflict they have is so stupid.

The Arab street is completely ignorant, and by choice.
The frenzied hatred is easy to stir. These folks are kept in poverty by their Arab brothers in order for them to be ruled over. They do this most effectively by finding a common enemy, and by blaming their current state of poverty on this common enemy. Currently, that enemy is Israel. If not Israel, it would likely be Shiite vs Sunni, or Arab vs Persian, or some other version of the past Lebanese conflicts.
The bigger picture in my mind is the spiritual. God's chosen people will be targets.

I don't oppose anything about this because I don't know enough about it. Besides, since when did everyman's "opposition" affect politics one particle, one way or the other?
