This is in the Egypt section because I have come to respect the opinions of many of the regular contributors in this section; sadly I have been disappointed with the lack of response.

i dont like it.
the students chose the name because of its popularity without relating it to the Prophet.
in christianity, there are two names. one is Jesus , and this isnt used in english or arabic. the other is Christ , and derivatives are used without sensitivity, Christiana , Chris, etc.
i think the teache needs a good lawyer , and perhaps she will have to leave sudan after the verdict so as not to be a victim of fundamentalists.

Its not the Muslims or Islam thats to blame, its the Sudanese government. Why is this in Egypt section?

It's a disgrace. It should be seen as worshipping rather than blasphemy.
If she is going to be punished, then shouldn't the children who picked the teddy's name? Utterly ridiculous.

Why do they call their kids Mohammed if it's classed as blasphemy? We don't go around naming our kids Jesus out of respect, so why do they do that?
They really need to get some lives!
