I have been asked to be the chair of a leadership team, what is the 'chair' of something?

Update:

Thanks 10to1 that is funny. These answers pretty much sum up what I thought it was.

Someone needs you to get on your hands and knees so they will have a place to sit.

The person who heads the group. I was going to say in charge, but that's not really always the case. You should ask the people who want you to do this what your duties would be as chair and that will help you to understand a bit better.

Chairman or Chairgirl or Chairwoman or Chairperson.

All those terms became politically incorrect so they shortened the title to just plain "Chair".

So you are the person who will get sat on and ran out of town if your committee's work is a flop.

You'll also get much of the credit for success.

    Congratulations!

Leader. You set the agenda, you put things up for a vote, you have the final veto power, you run the team and you run the meeting or conference.

    Best of luck!

If you don't know then you might want to decline the position! LOL! Simply because you don't know what you are getting into!

It means to be the head, leader etc...and that is no small task!

    Good Luck!

Respectfully, if you don't know the answer to the question, then maybe you should stand somewhere on the sidelines instead of sitting on the chair of any team! ;)
