Too many to decide. Depends on the type of food. Slow's BBQ is really good. Sweet Georgia Brown is good. Mosaic is good. Roma Cafe is good. Most of the Greektown restaurants are really good. Those are in the City limits. Go outside of those limits and the food can get even better!

Roma Cafe for Italian. Xochimilco in Mexicantown. Go to Dearborn for the best middle eastern food you'll ever experience in your life outside of Lebanon. Seriously- I live in NYC now, and can't find a decent falafel to save my life. For Polish food go to Hamtramck, a little independent city completely surrounded by downtown Detroit. The Traffic Jam and Snug is a famous spot. Go to www.metrotimes.com to see great non-stuffy restaurant reviews too. Also, Seva in Ann Arbor (like 35 min drive) is an amazing vegetarian restaurant. Ann Abor is where the University of Michigan is, so there are lots and lots of amazing restaurants there. (It's not just your average college town.) Opus One is in the D and it's good for fancy French fare. Also, there used to be a huge revolving restaurant at the top of the Renaissance Center right on the Detroit River in the middle of down town. It no longer revolves though there are still many restaurants in the landmark building. Also, since the casinos opened up there are multiple "Four Star" type generic places right inside them. Trapper's Alley in Greektown is a cool spot, and is really close to my personal favorite Greek place, Pegasus. Get the Saganaki Opa! Also, definitely check out the huge Eastern Market farmer's market, and the surrounding cafes and fun shops like the Rocky Peanut company. On a good day, Eastern Market is a fun gigantic hub of commerce- very worthy of those movie scenes in a crazed Moroccan bazaar.

Mellow night out: Traffic Jam (Midtown) or Slow's BBQ (Corktown)
After-work cocktails: Agave (Midtown)
Brunch: Majestic Cafe (Mid/Downtown), Toast (Ferndale, but it's only 1 mile from Detroit)
Fancy Le Hoohoo Saturday Evening: Vincente's (Downtown, Cuban, AWESOME)
Fun With Friends: Cadiex Cafe (Feather Bowling, Drinks, Dinner)
Special Occasion: Agave's Valentine's Day Dinner ($50/person for a five-course meal and flowers for the ladies. Nice!)

I only visited for a short while in September, so am not an expert resident, but we really loved the Ellwood Bar and Grill, right opssosite Comerica Park, for relaxed diner food, and the Detroit Beer Company, also downtown, for pizzas and plates to share.
