Is this a sign of dementia or altzheimers?

It can be. My grandmother (altzheimers) took to swearing like a sailor. She never would have done that, but her inhibitions were lowered. She also got paranoid. She said that people (the "yahoots" she called them) were coming into her house and stealing things. She wrote her name on EVERYTHING (sheets with a perminant maker, etc.). So she would hide her stuff and then forget where she hid it, and sure enough she said she could not find it because "they" had stolen it. Finally one day, she took glass jars and broke them up on her stairs with a hammer, so that "they" would cut their feet when they tried to take stuff out of her basement. She forgot. Went downstairs, barefoot, and cut herself up pretty badly. It was at that point that we had no difficulty proving her to be a harm to herself and were able to force her to get help.

PS: One day my brother and I were bicycling home from the local swimming pool, and stopped by Grandma's house for a glass of water and check in on her. Mind you, the sky was completely clear and blue. We ring the doorbell. She answered. She told recognized me and told me I had to come in the house right now because there was a tornado coming. She told me to tell my "friend" (didn't recognize my brother) to go home.

No, it just sounds like usual mum twisting things. My Grandmother does it all the time, really badly as well.

The signs of Alzheimers are memory loss, confusion and disorientation. It is fairly obvious as the most obvious things will seem confusing.

If she is a smoker as well, it is highly unlikely she will develop alzheimers or dementia.

If she is lying and twisting things, I would confront her about it, and tell her you can't speak to her if she continues to be like it.

Maybe she has an inferiority complex. People like that drive me crazy. Putting you down all the time. Just look at them as the one that has the problem.

A person with Alzheimer's.= Ask her to repeat a bunch of numbers like123455666 etc. Then ask her to repeat the numbers. If she says what numbers then start to worry.

It could be a early sign of dementia but I wouldnt look into to far. If your worried get her tested as alzheimers and dementia can start when your in your 60s.

Maybe she is under alot of pressure or something or maybe she just needs to talk to someone? 67 isn't really that old but if she has any siblings maybe they could help. May God Bless You and Happy Holiday
