what is the best way to clean your shower curtain.?

husband has a dirty job and gets my shower curtain dirty. The only thing I have found was to throw it in the washer. But... that is a lot of work.

You are doing it. If you have curtain hooks that are hard to get off it might help to get better hooks and make the task less of a pain.

I'm going to disagree with the notion of buying and throwing out shower curtains because it's 1) wasteful of your household money even at 5 to 10 dollars a pop, 2) they don't decompose in landfills or elsewhere and 3) they're not very recyclable and don't lend themselves well to alternative uses except maybe as drop cloths for painting.

Have you thought of putting a spray bottle in the shower filled with 5 parts water to 1 part bleach? Then have your hubby clean the curtain after use. After the shower is done, spray the curtain down with the solution and then use a cleaning rag to wipe it down. (The extra bonus is the bleach in the water is plenty to keep mildew and other mold from growing). That may help cut back the number of times you need to put it through the washing machine.

    Good luck!

If this shower curtain is cloth then add one cup of White Vinegar to the wash water hottest water the curtain can handle add a old white towel or one that does not bleed or fall apart for even better cleaning and balancing your machine add one more towel, if this curtain is vinyl then just add two towels to the wash water in cool or warm would be fine with your detergent and a half cup of vinegar in the wash water to help soften the soap scum and hard water spots, you can add more if you wish especially if this curtain is really grungie with soap scum and hard water spots, when this full cycle is done just hang up to dry in the shower again along with some ventilation such as a window open or the bathroom door left open or line dry is okay. Good Luck !

are you using a liner??? they're less than 5 bucks, and you can just toss them out after they get icky. You put it on with your regular shower curtain. This way your curtain doesn't mess up. I aslo found that if you let the curtain air out ( leave it spread open) it is then less likely to develop mold. I hope this helps.

First of all don't spend too much money on expensive shower curtains. No matter how cheap or expensive they are they get dirty and smelly and very hard to clean them.I used to buy expensive one and but I am also in same situation like you.I only buy real cheap curtains.Use them and throw them when they got dirty and it's saves my time and money that i spend for those 'cleaning' products that do lousy job.

You really waste more time cleaning it then you would if you just hopped in the car a got a few more, but bleach and a hard do a good job if you like it that much.

my husband has a filthy job, he is a machinist. my son is in welding school.. between the two of them our shower curtain gets pretty dirty... the only thing that i have found was to put it in the washing machine with bleach... nothing else works and we have tried them all...

Shower curtains are so cheap that I usually just buy a new one.

  • If it is vinyl - - Spray it with bleach and water solution while it's still hanging let it sit for a couple of minutes and then rinse with the shower.
