Why does my cat smell like maple syrup all the time?? She is not a diabetic?

Sometimes my cat smells like that, and I don't have anything that smells like syrup in the house. I don't know what causes it, but this cat has had more testing done than probably any other cat and she is perfectly heathy. Specifically she is not diabetic. Her tests all came back negative. No kidney failure because I had her tested after that pet food scandal awhile back.

Now that I think about, both cats have smelled like that from time to time. I have always thought it was maybe too much time in the sun (burning hair and all that). As a textiles major in college, I burned a lot of wool and there is kind of an after smell that isn't awful, kind of sweet smelling. I don't really know though. I never worried about it too much.

There are other things that are made to SMELL like maple syrup, as I am sure the smell isn't ACTUAL maple syrup. I'm certain you'd notice that. (If your cat was covered in stickiness, you probably woundn't say, "Something's not right here...But what?...I'm not sure. I think I'll ask people online...") Hahahaha!

I once encountered moth balls that smelled like maple syrup. I didn't use them, as the idea just didn't sound very good. Is there a blanket the cat lies on? Or is there a specific person that constantly hold the cat? I'm sorry I can't help more. I still think you should try the tree tap. You never know...maybe cats do that.... Hahahaha! Just kidding.

could she be getting herself into syrup or a place with sugar? some cabnet or something? I noticed my cat always smells like something if he's been sneaking around that area.
