Small minded people ... ?

I think there may be more to this than we know about. He was in the news before in 2005 when the neighbours were then trying to negotiate with him and they did offer to make the charity donation themselves if he agreed not to put the bling up:

When I first read this I was appalled at the small mindedness of the other residents - wouldn't it have been a better idea to have offered to make a collection and let him donate that to the charity rather than take the course they did! I say this because I do not know what time he had the lights on for, what congestion it caused, whether neighbours couldn't park in front of their houses etc. i am sure some other course of action could have been taken - and if it meant taking the pleasure away from the people who enjoyed it and 'robbing' a charity then I feel the neighbours should take a hard look at themselves if they could not have negotiated something.

It is one of those "walk in my shoes" situations isn't it.

On the face of it, it would seem that the council were being churlish and petty. However if i were a resident of what was probably a quiet street up until the lights were turned on, I think that I would pretty soon get tired of it.

There would be the constant noise from the cars, horns beeping, and people shouting. Not to mention the attendant problems of trying to get in and out of the neighbourhood and ones own driveway.

I think that saying the lights could only be on for two weeks each year would be a fair and balanced way of dealing with it, but it is a no win situation I am sure.

There are so many ways that this stupid council could have dealt with this. For example put a time limit on it such as 2 weeks before Christmas to 1 week after or having to switch off the lights at a certain time. Many ,many ways to compromise with this well intentioned guy but no. a complete ban.They,(the council) should all be named and shamed.

I don't really see how a rise in crime can be related to people going to see a houses illuminations. What happens? The families take their children to see the house and a plastic Santa and then proceed to rob a bank to finish off the days festivities. The police could always just do their job and stop blaming crime on something which is obviously unrelated.

Strong light is a kind of pollution. In big city, there is a limit on how strong the light emission can be.

It seems that that Briton is using too much light bulb and wasting too much energy. He should have lesson on environmental protection and be green (not with green light bulb).

it has nothing to do with small minded ness, i would HATE to live opposite that, i bet he puts it all up months before christmas, all those flashing lights, it would be difficult to sleep, loads of ppl wandering about until 2am as reported not to mention the waste of electricity. it is way over the top, if he had scaled it down in previous years as requested by the neighbours it probably would not have come to this. i'm no kiljoy, i like to see ppl's homes decorated but it is too over the top, he has no consideration for his neighbours rights or feelings, they pay their taxes they have the right to leave in peace and quiet in their own homes and street. lack of respect and consideration for thy neighbour is one of the reasons today's society is the way it is now, lawless !

thats the way the world is some times just cold and hard

disagree any peson could do whateever they want and also it was helping a good cause
