Why are we in bed with Israel?

I'm smart enough to know that Israel's geographic position in the middle east gives us a strategic stronghold should all out war ever breakout with the middle east. I also know that as long as we (The U.S.) hang tight to a military advantage, we will never be attacked by an organized military. But is this the only reason? Alexander Hamilton once wrote, "nations have no permanent alliances, only permanent interests. "Interests" explain our presence in Iraq. But what are our interests in Israel? Money is almost always involved in every public decision made. So is it just military or is there something else going on? Those of you who have examined this issue please chime in with what you know or believe to be true. Those that haven't, give me your speculation anyway.

Isreal is a strategic interest to us first because it is the only real Democracy in the Middle East. As a free nation, we have an obligation to encourage all Democracies of the world to promote freedom and human rights in their countries, and regions. Isreal is also a trading partner, just like many other Democracies we deal with. Since it has nuclear weapons, and noone else has them in the middle east, its to our advantage to keep them stable.. and prosperous.

We dont want them to fall into the wrong hands. And we dont want all out war to break out in the middle east because at the moment, its a sad reality that we need the oil in that area to power our super charged economy.

America has a long tradition of protecting its allies also. Regardless of how popular or unpopular they are to other people.

Just as well, we sell Isreal TONS of sophisticated military hardware... in return, they give us some of the most vital behind the scenes intelligence information since their intel services are amongst the best in the world.

Alot of people dont like the jews.... but our relationship with them goes far beyond a simple strategic location to launch attacks on our enemies abroad.

    Thats my take on it.

There isn't any real strategic advantage to Israel. Israel has been attacked by all surrounding countries.

We launched military attacks against Iraq from Saudi Arabia and we also defended them against Iraqi invasion in 1992.

The only interest we have in Israel is protecting freedom and democracy where ever it exists any where on the globe.

If we stop defending freedom, then we are lost.

As JFK said "born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace, proud of our ancient heritage—and unwilling to witness or permit the slow undoing of those human rights to which this Nation has always been committed, and to which we are committed today at home and around the world.

Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, in order to assure the survival and the success of liberty."

I think that explains our support of Israel, or any country that cries out for freedom on the globe.

USA always protected its land from troops staged outside the US lands itself. If we don't have troops staged, then we have alliances. Israel, as you mentioned, is just in a hot spot. They are surrounded by black listed countries like Syria, Lebanon and Iran also is not that far. Those countries presents to USA a threat. But USA won't wait till they attack the main land USA, It will protect itself by Having a country like Israel and Egypt as an allies in this very area. In time of need, USA troops can always count on Israeli location to fight from.

Secondly, a lot of the rich lobbying guys are Jews who support the existence of Israel, and continue to secure its existence but securing its friendship and alliance with the Super power : USA. It is pure benefit exchange.

There is a reason Alexander Hamilton was never elected President!

We started Isreal after WWII - it was our initiative, along with the league of nations. Plus we have similar interests. Why are we in bed with England or Canada? Same answer - because we have mutual interests...

Why do we support israel? well for alot of reasons

    1. The general public of america is anti-muslim and therefore supports Israel's right to exist

2.Christian fundamentalists are strong supporters of a jewish homeland (i have no idea why)

    3. Israel is a key strategic ally of ours in the middle east

    4. We've supported them for so long we are pretty much chained to them

5.WE MAKE A TON OF MONEY SELLING THEM WEAPONS

Because an unsurmountable amount of oil lies at the Southeast corner of the Dead Sea. They're just waiting for the water to lower enough to drill.

truly precise, yet i imagine a lingering concern and resentment to Russia (left over from the undesirable previous days of the U.S.) also performs a significant function interior the biased media reporting.

Israel is by far the most democratic nation in that geographic region. We have a moral obligation and a vested interest to support nations which respect human rights and promote Freedom
