I am in Philly. Our unique tradition is beating on fans of any out of town team who has the cahones enough to wear their favorite teams uniform into our building. Some of our favorite targets are the Rangers, Islanders, Penguins and Sabres. (Aw heck, we really don't care what team it is really.) This applies to all Philadelphia teams, not just the hockey team. I do participate when I see that it's an Islanders fan on the off chance that the target happens to be our favorite annoyance here on Y! A.

*** Disclaimer: Philadelphia fans do not beat up opposing teams fans who do not deserve it. Ever.

Flyer fans keep showing up at games and buy merchandise for a team that is 0 - 5 in its last 5 trips to the Stanley Cup Finals.

Penguins fans boo Jaromir Jagr every time he touches the puck. He was asked about it again this season. He smiled and said, "They don't mean it." How dare?? Lol.

Um, I guess there are some other Pens fans things that are sort of unique...

We chant "RUUUU!" (which sounds like booing) when Jarkko Ruutu does something on the ice. It's like when Canucks fans yell "LUUUU!" for Luongo.

We love Gary Roberts to a pretty rabid degree. (I say this is unique because, uh, he's not going to lead the team offensively and those are usually the kinds of players fans really get behind.) A good bit of fans ordered "WWGRD" (What Would Gary Roberts Do) bracelets from the team's most popular blog.

Source(s): TBL - Hey, the Stars thing is pretty awesome. PUCK - ...You have such a wonderful way of making me feel good about my Pens. LOL.

Here in New York, the Rangers started the "Potvin Sucks" chant (starts with a little whistle that echoes around the arena) -- referring to the Captain of the NY Isles during their 80-83 Cup run (it started when he checked and injured Ranger Ulf Nilsson).

The Devils and Isles have stolen this chant, except they scream "Rangers Suck"

Also, the Rangers started a "Beat your wife Potvin, BEAT YOUR WIFE!" chant after Potvin was charged with domestic violence against his spouse.

And then a few years back, when Marty Brodeur got a divorce with his wife, the next game he was at the Garden, Ranger fans chanted "How's Your Wife Marty? HOW'S YOUR WIFE?!"

Harsh stuff, but still good times.

Good question though -- I wonder what other unique things fans do in other arenas

Lightning fans have really found a unique thing for us to do yet. Maybe Haley can think of something, but I can't.

My favorite would have to be the Dallas Stars fans during the National Anthem. When the singer gets to the part where she says, "Whose broad stripes and bright stars..." They all scream out "Stars!"

HALEY - Oh yah, that's right! They won't let you touch it when you go in there.

Every year Leafs fans dream big, plan a parade and then see their team die a horrible death in a fiery crash come April. Been that way since 1968.

  • Florida Had the year of the Rat. We all would throw plastic rats on the ice. I did at the time. Now some people still do it after a good win, like the other night against the Canes.
