Should we be spending money on our own infrastructure?
Instead of wasting billions in Iraq, first on destroying then on rebuilding, shouldn't we be improving our own infrastructure, such as placing power lines underground in rural areas so they are not so badly affected by summer and winter storms? Fifteen years in Boston and I have never once lost power, thanks to underground power lines.
Hey USMC O-2, the question wasn't if the federal government DOES, the question was if they SHOULD. Try reading before YOU spout off. And PS: The killing in Iraq isn't keeping me alive.

Certainly
After all, we pay the taxes. Why should the government give the fruits of my labour to some people in Iraq? Maybe they should simply give me tax cuts!
And we shouldn't be giving money to Israel nor should we be giving money to Egypt (or any other country as a matter of fact. Those two get the most US monetary help).
And I'm Israeli myself, so you can't label me an anti-semite. I just think that people in the US work hard and they should enjoy the produce of their labor, not anyone else. It's common sense, isn't it?
And by the way, why should we continue to waste billions of dollars to no avail in Iraq when we don't even know what we are doing there to begin with? The president isn't telling me why my money is being thrown there in exponential rates. To spread democracy? To get oil which I don't benefit from?

Good Question, remember Hurricane Katrina and the aftermath, that was how does one say? a lack of Leadership? it wouldn't happen in my country,(and we have a much smaller federal government) divide 2 trillion dollars in taxes spent amongst all their priorities(what did you get?)sorry to be so critical but its Christmas eve here(and i am tipsy)

yes, we should invest in our foundation. There is such much government waste and the money that should be spend on our infrastructure is going to less important things. It is my philosophy to feed your own family before you feed strangers.I wish i could say that about our government.

It is my contention that we would have *plenty* of money to maintain and improve our infrastructure if politicians would quit stealing money from the highway trust fund and giving it to public transportation or subsidizing other stupid "green" projects.
