Pulled over with Permit?

My friend was pulled over with his permit, and there was no licensed driver in the car. He ran a red light, what would happen to him? Would his insurance go up when (if) he gets his license?

Do you know if he will be suspended until he is 18? This happened in Connecticut.

The only thing I can say is what would happen in my state. He would be suspended and his insurance would go up because of the moving violation and the suspension, he would have to carry an SR22 for three years, fine and possibly jail time of 11 days or so.

I would say it is fairly certain it will be suspended until he is 18, as well as a significant raise in insurance premiums. If the cop wants to push it he can also be charged with driving without a license, wreckless endangerment, and if the car belongs to his parents (which if he's under 18 it does) then they can be charged with wrongful entrustment, or if he took it without their permission then he can be charged with grand theft auto. All of that is possible, but not likely. He just won't be able to drive until he's 18, and his insurance will be high, unless he causes trouble.

I do not know the Connecticut rules of how your lisencing systems works. But if it is anything like metropolitan area(VA/DC/MD) he probably will be suspended untill he is 18...possibly 21-23. And hell yeah, that insurence will go up. It stinks. And that insurence will keep going up from here on out. A) he is a guy (from what you implied) B) he only has a permit C) that insurance is not going down anytime soon untill the age of 24. and that will only go down on one condition. If he has NO violations untill 24.

Yes, it is likely that he will not be able to get his license until he is 18. Also, his parents may face some problems due to not keeping him within the law.

More than likely he'll get a fine and his license held till he turns 18.

Well, we have running a red light, which will probably accompany reckless driving. Couple that with driving without a license, and he's got three strikes in one hit. His insurance won't be cheap.

I think the law says " you have to have a lic. driver over 18 in the veh. with you at all times".

I think his lic. is gone and his ins. cost will hit the roof when he can get a lic. back.

Ins. company's track you back for 3 years when you apply for ins. When it comes up it is a big flag and most major company's will say no thank you! and have a good day.
