What's the best used Pickup Truck?
I need a pickup to replace my old '79 Ford. I need a full size bed, and something dependable with good gas milage. I don't drive it a lot, but I live in a very rural location, and I do all of the repairs and maintenance myself.
Four wheel drive would be nice, but not if it is a maintenance nighhtmare.
I plan on owning this another 20 or 30 years.

Toyota definitely. The guys on the BBC TV program Top Gear tried to destroy one but couldn't. See http://www.bbc.co.uk/topgear/ select Watch Videos, click the Stunts tab and click on Indestructable truck.

NO full-size pickup truck is "good" on gas, but the best & also most reliable is a Toyota Tundra. HOnda Ridgeline is a better vehicle (and gets better gas mileage) but does not have a full size bed. ALL of the full-size Ford, Chevy, GMC and Dodge pickups are very unreliable and get very bad gas mileage. Just check Consumer Reports, and you'll see what I mean. Good Luck. A toyota or HOnda will easily last 20 yrs if well cared for.

GMC or Chevy will be your best bet and will be the most reliable over any Ford or Dodge pickups plus their gas mileage is better along with their resale value.

It would very on where you live.
If you are in a area a lot of Mountains or Hills, you should get either a Ford F-150 (1997-2008) or A Chevy Silverado (1996-2008) With 4X4
If you are looking for great gas Mileage, get the Silverado with the Ethanol fuel capability.

1990-1992 Chevrolet S-10. my husband has had his since 1992 and it has 283,000 miles on it and it still purrs like a kitten. he went three years without changing the oil, changed it, and it still doesn't leak. he put diesel fuel in by accident, cranked it and tried to run it. it wouldn't go so he drilled the gas tank, drained it, plugged it, put gas in it, and drove away. he still hasn't changed the fuel filter and it has been 5 years!! his is so dependable we bought me a 1991 S-10. you can't kill mine either. look on the road when you drive and the 1990-1992 is the most common truck you will see that is not brand new. they made those truck excellent!! we would not trade our trucks for anything in the world. i was offered $5000 for mine and would not take it. i recommend through personal experience this truck to any one. a friend of ours has a 1992 S-10 and he has driven from Colorado to Mississippi on it twice a year for the last 7 years. his has never died.

No, the Ridgeline doesn't get good mileage. Its mileage is as bad as any full-size truck, however, the Ridgeline's bed is useless.
I would go with a Chevy Silverado/GMC Sierra.
Those are my personal favorites.
