Does anyone else hate the store cards you have to have to get discounts??
Every food store I go to wants you to sign up for a card to receive their lower prices. I literally have a stack of cards I would have to carry around to get any normal prices in stores. Does anyone else find this inconvenient? If so what can be done about it?
Does anyone work at a store or in the business know what they do with the personal info they gather?

as a former restaurant owner, i can tell you that these cards are EVIL.
if you really want to avoid that kind of crap, eat only at locally owned restaurants.
it's like this: a big restaurant chain buys salt by the train car load. they pay, maybe, a penny a pound for that salt. a local restaurant owner pays about a dollar (or more) a pound.
local restaurant owners don't have the buying power to offer discounts - most of them are working hard to keep prices down, but the truth is that they pay alot more for the food they serve you.
if you really want to be free from this kind of crap, be selective where you spend your money. the discounts may be great, but the profit for the big chains is higher even when they give you a "discount."
sorry for the rant, but darn, it felt good.
buy and eat local - don't send your money to some corporate office that doesn't give two craps about your local community.

They are completely unnecessary. It just a way for stores to get more money out of shoppers who don't happen to have their card. Why can't stores just offer the lowest price to everyone period and do away with member cards? It cost the stores money and time to issue out savings cards. Who do you think pays for those costs? It's a cheap scam to require shoppers to have a card to get the lowest prices. Another scam they use is when they constantly move items around inside store isles to keep the shoppers confused. They don't want you to remember where anything is so you will spend more time in their store. Tight-wad tactics to get every extra cent they can out of people...Shameful!

I agree. I shop at Safeway and it irks me that I can't get their stuff that's on special that week without having to drag out that stupid card. If other stores have their weekly specials without cards, why can't Safeway. It's not good for anything else that I can see so what is the point. I use it cuz I have to but I don't like it.

Yes I hate them too. I always give them bogus info and list a phone number that is bogus also, but easy to remember, that way I don't have to give them the cards, give them the bogus phone number when I check out, still get the discounts and not the hassle.
