My cat has changed suddenly, is that normal?

First of all I am NOT a cat person and I don't claim to be. The cat was my husbands cat when we got married. (My husband and I have been married for almost 10 yrs). This cat has always been pure EVIL. No I am not exaggerating. Any time you would walk by he would scratch your ankles, he hisses at everyone, and you really couldn't do anything around him without getting attacked.

He is 11 + years old now.

Now all of a sudden he is really nice to me and only me. He jumps up on my lap and purrs, wants me to pet him all the time, and sleeping in the bed with me. Basically he is acting like a normal cat to me. He is still evil to everyone else.

What is going on? Do cats do this when they get older? And why does he only like me? I don't even feed him, the kids do.

How can I get him to be nice to everyone in our family?

it's not surprising that it likes you the most, because apparently you are the one who it sees and is with the most.

but it's hard to explain why this is a sudden change.

Every cat that I've owned was wild and mean when it was young and slowly mellowed out as it aged. Instead of clawing and shredding everything within reach, they become slower, more content, and a bit lazy. Your cat doesn't want to change, but perhaps it's wisened up and realized that it needs someone to take care of it when it's bones get creaky and its kidneys begin to weaken a bit.

    that's my amature, rambling opinion.

  • maybe u have something that he wants like a toy.
