Is this a Christian attitude?

It was always my understanding that Christianity was based on love - not hatred.

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,324966,00.html

How's it going to make his little girl feel to hear her Daddy is serving an eternal sentence burning in hell? I fail to see how that is Christian behavior...

Update:

To make this clear, I'm not attacking Christians....

I'm just confused as to how these guys can see fit to call themselves Christians when they are so hate-filled....

Update 2:

They are going to picket the memorial for him in U.S.

I don't think they'd be game enough to come here to Australia and picket his actual funeral...we wouldn't let 'em

It's the Westboro Baptist Church, what do you expect from the guys who picket American Soldiers funerals with signs that say "God Hates Fa*s".

Well...that is insane. Picketing at a funeral is extremely rude and disrespectful. First of all, God doesn't hate anyone, or any group of people, he is a just and loving God. I personally don't know if Heath Ledger is in Hell or not. I do not know his religion, or his beliefs and practices. However, he is not gay, and he merely portrayed a homosexual, which I do not believe was right, but he may have asked forgiveness for it. It is no one's place to judge another, that is left to God, and they are not living by his word by thinking they have the power to judge another human being.

I am a Christian, and I believe that the website GodHatesFags.com is a sin against God, because God does not hate.

This is insanity. Please do not judge all Christians on this example. We are not all hate-mongering.

While I am a Christian (though I am NOT religious), and while I do not agree with homosexuality, it is an insult to all Christians that this so-called 'church' is even getting any attention. They are abusing the religion, giving all other religions and religious beliefs a bad name, and lying as well as misquoting God. This ridiculous little church, filled with all its ridiculous little bigots, needs to sit down and shut up.

It is not Christian behavior. Saying the Westboro Baptist Church represents Christians is like saying Osama bin Laden represents Muslims.

Add-I've seen several interviews with Fred Phelps and his family over many years. This is truly a little cult because to them, it's what he says that counts, not the Bible or Christ.

Are you really this oblivious? This is the Westboro Baptist Church, not Christians! They are a blight on the face of the planet to everyone. No one in his right mind would say such a thing.

How on earth do you think Heath Ledger's daughter is going to hear this story?

And to our Australian friend -- this is not "America" either. This Fred Phelps is a cult leader hiding in a denominational church. Hey, I made a typo and started typing demoninational. Sounds right.

    How freaky!

I think one thing we can be sure of is that "Christians" all believe and act in different ways.

The fact that no one has bombed or burned that church down is a testament to how civilized Some People can be.

  • It's the same wacked-out group that pickets soldier's funerals. They are a strange cult that is better ignored until they go away.

I agree that homosexuality is sinful, but the behavior of that church is disgusting and not a true representation of Christianity by any means. I doubt many of them are actual Christians.

No, but unfortunately it's a very Westboro Baptist church attitude.

This "church" is nothing more than one single fundamentalist family and a few friends who grabbed the media's attention with picketing funerals with signs saying things like "God Hates F@gs" etc. Nobody really takes them seriously except themselves.

I wish the media would ignore them. I'm sure that w/o the limelight, they would get bored with themselves and fade away.

Well, Christians(like all people) don't always behave the way they say or think they do. If you need some evidence, stick around here for a day or two.

EDIT: Plus, this family is on the extreme side of fundamentalism. Always have been. It also seems like any action they take for or against something always gets media attention. ( BBC did a documentary on them)

But then again, our media only thrives and survives on conflict and controversy, so... I'm not surprised.

It really shocked me to see how many people on Yahoo! Answers were making similar statements yesterday, only a matter of hours after this man's death! I can't understand the supposedly Christian infatuation with who is in Hell and who is not.

When I mentioned yesterday that maybe it wasn't wholly appropriate, I got accused of "dealing with death by not talking about it", and summarily blocked. I wish you better luck!
