We moved to Arizona from central NJ and it took us 5-6 days. But, we were NOT rushing and racing to get here. We took our time and stopped at a friend's in Ohio. We were also driving a little Ford Escort.

    This was our route:

I-78 to I-70 West through PA, OH, IN, IL

to I-44 MO, OK, (look for the gigantic McDonald's spanning acorss the entire Interstate)

    to I-40 TX, NM, AZ

We also stayed at cheaper motels along the way and packed food in a cooler. Back in '99 gas was a lot cheaper too-especially for an Escort. I picked up AAA books for every state we knew we were driving through so I could figure where to stay. I don't believe I paid more than $40 a night for a chain motel, and about $25 a night for no-name motels. The most we paid was about $75 in St. Louis, but that was my mistake.

On the otherhand, I have friends that came from Providence, RI-closer to you. They packed up an RV and drove about 18 hours a day and made it here in 2 1/2 days.

I'd say, if you stay in a motel (and not in your car) and drive, you would need about $750-1000 for food, gas, and motel stays. It all depends on what MPG your car gets, how much the hotel bills are and how often you stop. My BF drove from VA to AZ a few years ago and it cost about $500, but he slept in the car.

Most cars on yahoo autos have a MPG of 24.

Its 2673.53 miles from phoenix to .mass

    National Gas Prices average 3.006

I figured $334.84 add idling, stops, traffic, i would say $380

Go on yahoo maps find out how many miles it is....divide by the MPH of your auto....times the cost per gallon and add motel and food....do your own homework...
