How often should a 10 year old get new sneakers? Should they get a pair every month? What do you think?

One pair a month is very excessive. Kids should get new shoes when they outgrow their old pair or if they start to fall apart. If they haven't outgrown them and the shoes are still intact after a year, then you could get them a new pair anyways. Most of the arch support will have deteriorated by then and a new shoe is called for.
Once their feet stop growing, get a new pair every year, most people do it for for going back to school, or sooner if they become unwearable.
If the kids wants a pair of trendy new shoes more often than that then they should have to pay for them themselves or earn them in some other way.

Whoever wants to buy the sneakers should figure out how much, on average, is spent on a pair, and put that much into a savings account for a new car when the 10-year-old can drive...it would add up to a good down payment.

every month!! no way! even every few months is probably too much. My 8, and 7 year old stepkids have two pairs of good runners for school, and they'll get a new pair for summer, and new sandles.. they'll only get new ones in between then if they somehow get wrecked or lost.
Three brand new pairs of sneakers for a grade-schooler I'm sure is more then enough and probably more then a lot of kids get.

Only when their foot changes size or the shoe is extremely dirty or falling apart. You could get them a new pair if you are having pictures done or taking them to a family outting, but otherwise I see no reason to buy them a new pair. If your 10 year old is already obsessed with looking cool and wasting mom's money, you may want to take him to a homeless shelter to help out for a day and teach him that he has a lot to be thankful for.

I always buy two pairs for my kids. One is for school and the other is for playing outside. I usually have to buy 2-3 sets per year due to wear and tear and feet growth. Getting them more often than that is just too expensive. If he has his own money and wants to buy them more often let him but otherwise I would make it clear that he needs to take care of his things. Let him know you will buy a new pair if he grows out of them, one right before school starts and 1 other pair to be used for outside play.

I think every month is a lot. Some Kids in Africa don't even have one pair. Monthly pairs is very over the top i think!

When I was a kid, I got a new pair shoes on two occasions...when I outgrew them or right before school started. If neither of those applied, then I just wore the ones I had.
I don't think kids need to be more spoiled than that.

no way...i only got new sneakers every few years when i was a kid lol. i think only if they outgrow their shoes or they're too torn up to wear.

Not every month, but as needed. By "as needed" I mean as they wear out and not just cause the kid wants them.
