Religion is the root of sin. Do you agree?

I think I certainly do.

Religion separates us even more than how we already are. I think that, without religion, race and colour would not be a matter because if we were all religion-less then we would not be able to stereotype people to being a certain religion and immediately hate them for it.

Religion causes so many problems, yet claims to be the answer to all of them.

I honestly believe it's the root of sin, of evil.

Do you agree?

Religion is man made... a great business...!!!

There is plenty of evidence in the Bible that regardless of any “free will” GOD COULD HAVE PREVENTED Eve from touching a fruit from the wrong tree simple because God is love! But a deeper look into God’s morality it becomes obvious that God is an outright pervert who loves to kill people to satisfy his unique sadistic pleasure! God already had a Hell and a Devil created for the “ungodly” before Eve ever touché the “forbidden fruit”. There is not a single “Guardian Angel” or anybody watching over EVE to protect NOT ONLY HER but the WHOLE HUMAN RACE from going to Hell. The “Guardian Angel” idea works only in the minds of a full tithe paying member of a State recognized tax exempt church!

God PREVENTED that anybody would kill Cain for murdering Abel by placing a “Hands OFF” mark on him! God could have done something similar to protect Eve from touching the forbidden fruit! I wonder where anybody knows what I mean… Most Christians choose not to understand what I am saying!

God PREVENTED Abraham from slashing his son Isaac’s throat. God has no power to know everything ahead of time and has to see it happening. That OK! More power to Peeping-tom God! In the same manner God could have prevented Eve from touching the forbidden fruit!

God personally PREVENTED the Heathen King Abimelech from having sex with Abraham sister/wife Sarah "so King Abimelech wouldn't sin against God". God was present in the Royal Bedroom chambers to PREVENT some questionable sexual activity that this king may enjoy with anybody so that he wouldn't "sin" against God! But God is nowhere to be seen near Eve or his untouchable fruit tree to prevent that the WHOLE HUMAN RACE that he loves so much go to be tormented for ever and ever in a sulfuric burning Lake of Hell Fire. It doesn’t take too many neurons in anybody’s mind to figure out that the Bible writers were a bunch of perverts creating a God so full of crap for anybody to worship!!!

Genesis 20:2-6 …and there Abraham said of his wife Sarah, "She is my sister." Incest was allowed all along until Moses changed it. Then Abimelech king of Gerar sent for Sarah and took her. But God came to Abimelech in a dream one night* (*only God knows how many nights he was watching this king perform in his bedroom) and said to him, "You are as good as dead because of the woman you have taken; she is a married woman.”* (*it would have been perfectly OK if she had no husband!) Now Abimelech had not gone near her, so he said, "Lord, will you destroy an innocent nation?* (*God and the Heathen King discuss National Security issues in a dream!!! Too bad CNN was not there to interview the King!) Did he not say to me, `She is my sister,' and didn't she also say, `He is my brother'?* (*can you imagine a holy man of God handing his sister/wife for the unrestricted sexual pleasure of this Heathen king?) I HAVE DONE THIS WITH A CLEAR CONSCIENCE AND CLEAN HANDS." Then God said to him in the dream, "Yes, I know you did this with a clear conscience* (*so as long as you do it with a clear conscience and clean hands you can’t possibly sin against God and go to Hell), and so I have kept you from sinning against me. That is why I did not let you touch her.”* (*now you know that if you are having problems with any new sex partner maybe God is there preventing you from sinning… So make sure you keep Viagra handy!)

Can you imagine the Bible God Creator of this humongous Universe peeping-tom into your bedroom to find out what kind of sexual activities you are planning for tonight? BUT HE IS SO RETARDED NOT WATCHING EVE or do anything like setting up a “flaming sword flashing back and forth” TO PREVENT EVE FROM eating the forbidden fruit like he did around the tree of life. Was it a set up to send the whole human race to HELL and to have God the Son Jesus Christ slaughtered to save a few who “believe”? All this makes the Bible God a first class derange pervert!!! God could have done the same peeping tom spying on Lucifer to find out about his plans to overthrow him in that scantly documented revolution mentioned in the Bible… but God didn’t do it! Or maybe he did it and it was all a set up to come up with the Devil idea? So God created Lucifer with the ability to become the Devil before Eve ever touched the forbidden fruit and God so eagerly created Hell, too!!!

We are told in the Bible that God was pleased to send his ONLY BEGOTTEN SON to be thoroughly beaten, tenderized and deeply marinated in Roman spit as prep for crucifixion to pay for the "original sin" of Eve eating from the forbidden fruit. I’m sure that God the Son Jesus Christ must have asked his retarded Heavenly Father, “Hey Dad, wouldn’t have been easier to stop Eve from eating the forbidden fruit?” He must have asked this question while sweating blood praying in the Garden of Gethsemane dead scared of dying for anybody! The whole Bible Theology is so screwed up that it is no joke! The problem is that hardly anybody reads the Bible… Most preachers tell you that the Bible doesn’t mean what it says and needs to be interpreted by men of God full of the Holy Ghost and BS!

Bottom line: The Bible God is a confirmed peeping-tom pervert capable of preventing a Heathen King from having sex with Abraham’s sister/wife, but not interested in preventing Eve from eating of the forbidden fruit that has the penalty of sending the whole human race to Hell!!!

BTW… Abraham’s sister/wife Sarah was age 90. This fact alone makes the whole sexual tryst worth watching… Hey I give God some credit so don’t get me wrong! I am open minded, too)

You build your entire argument on the assumption that every religion includes dogma about an afterlife. This simply isn't true. Some religions don't address the notion of an afterlife at all. So obviously, there's more to it than that. It doesn't matter how many people "agree" or "disagree" with your claim. I'm guessing that the only religion you're really familiar with is Christianity. If you want to look into the sociological roots of religion, I suggest reading Pascal Boyer's "Religion Explained" and Michael Shermer's "How We Believe".

I agree up to a point. If you dismantled the structures of organised religion and made it a sacred private matter where only 2 people could talk and pray and if you tried to start up a religion you were stopped then I think this place would be far better. However that is unrealistic because of cultural diversity ,which propagates religion in a very sinister way.Imagine a world with no Pope,Imans,Ayatollahs,Fundamentalist be they Jewish,Moslem or Christian. No recognized creeds or Holy Books only Truth and love and admiration for the champions of truth and love for from that comes justice to all people.Lets start right now.

I don't think so. First of all, if it wasn't for religion or race, people would be stereotyped for other things. Where they are from. Their income. Their favorite color. It's just human nature.

I'm Jewish. It makes things hard sometimes, but I honestly believe in the morals and ethics that it talks about. It's important to get all of the facts together, so that you don't get caught up in the ideals of the fundamentalists. In this day and age, I think most people are accepting of religions. In my experience this has been the case anyway. People are still against Jews out there. There is a ton of antisemitism, especially in Europe, but do we stop something that we believe is just and rational because of the people who are irrational? I think the cause of sin are things like ignorance, intolerance, lack of respect for others, things like that. If I come off sounding crazy then let me know. I'm not. I have my issues with Judaism, but I don't think it's the cause of problems.

Sorry this is long but the argument Paul has in the Bible is that if we didn't know that something was a sin, it wouldn't be such a pleasure! So we wouldn't have problems over it.

The answer he finds (not posted below) is God's grace. That is what makes Christianity different from other religions: 'while we were still sinners, Christ died for the ungodly'.

Source(s): Romans 7:7-10 What shall we say, then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! Indeed I would not have known what sin was except through the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, "Do not covet." But sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, produced in me every kind of covetous desire. For apart from law, sin is dead. Once I was alive apart from law; but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died. I found that the very commandment that was intended to bring life actually brought death.

I personally believe that Humans themselves are the root of all evil, we created religion just like we created war and peace. We choose to let religions divide us,we choose to stereotype people, if we didn't discrI'minate against people based on religions nor gender nor race,im sure we would find other levels of discrimination.

In my perspective religions were created by man as a dogma or a standard style of life that promotes high values and promises home and justice as it maps itself as a way to "God", yet many people now a days forget the original purpose of religions, and see religion as a way to feel superior or as mere actions and clothing and acting, without a single true value ever expressed or deployed.

I'm not saying that religions are good, but i also don't think they are bad, they just "are", like maths or physics or books or knowledge, all of these exist as an unity that is neither good nor evil, its how me as humans apply them and use them that they turn into good or evil, hence it all comes down to us being the original root of sin and evil.

yes very true. the irony of the mater is that the leaders of religions preach to us to love each others .. and at the same time scare us talking about sin , heaven ,hell issues while they get richer at the process .religion is for power and control the people period.if you remove religion from people you will see a different world ,but it will not going to happen soon we are not evolve enough yet...

oh yes! Religion brings our attention to sin. Open us up to race & all u've discribe above. It also prove to have solutions to the problems. What I really think is that humans are ignorant & foolish as far as this world is concern. It only can or will be better if humans are enlightened ...... I wouldn't condemn it as the root of sin & evil entirely, rather blame collective & individualistic fault.

Religion as a human endeavor does much more good than harm.

Personally, I like religions, it's the practice of them by a number of morons that causes problems. These kind of idiots would be raising hell on earth without the justification they think they get from their religion.

You obviously have a beef against religion. Did someone tell you you were going to Hell if you wasn't a good little girl? Religion is not about Hate. Unfortunately because so many haters appeal to their ignorant brothers and sisters through their claim to riotousness there are those like yourself who like to condemn all religion. Where you are just as misguided as they are and it is exactly what they seek.

  • 1 decade ago

God ordained religion. mankind perverted it.

Jesus organized His church with teachers and various offices in the church and gave us prophets.

but to quote the bible: The love of Money is the root of all evil.

if sin is a subcategory of evil, than the wickedness of man and Satanic rebellion is the True root of Sin. NOT religion. religion teaches us *correctly or not, what sin is. But religion is not the source of sin.
