I am a new nascar fan and I was wondering why so many people do not like Jeff Gordon?
And, how can so many people say he is not good, when he wins so much?

Success has fueled a lot of the hate that he receives. Much like the New York Yankees, New England Patriots, and other successful sports franchises.
Also Jeff has had a lot of breaks throughout his career, and a lot of people feel like he has been giving a lot undeservedly. Nobody owed Jeff anything, it was just the typical young driver who may be something some day. Turns out that driver really did come through with over 70 victories and 4 championships.
He got a ride in Nascar much like some of the other young drivers have received theirs. So as you can see a combination of success and falling into the right hands of Rick Hendrick fueled a lot of the hate he receives today.
Since your new to Nascar you will find that Jeff is not the only one that people hate. Tony Stewart, Kurt Busch, Kyle Busch, Jr, are just some of the few drivers that you will see bashed as you watch nascar. The more those drivers win, the more you will see their haters come out of the woodwork.
I hope you enjoy the season!!!

Because he has shown no empathy for those that display intestinal fortitude ... a trait which blue collar workers admire. As NASCAR is a bastion for the blue collar work ethic, as is the USA in the eyes of Europe, there exists a certain degree of skepticism when people rise to the top without experiencing adversity. Jeff Gordon is only downplayed in North America, in Europe he and JJ are favorites (among the few NASCAR fans in the EU). Americans love winners, but they are passionate about winners who have proven they have earned their wins by overcoming adversity.

Because it is human nature that people do not like to lose and for those fans that have picked other driver's as their favorite don't like it when their driver loses and Gordon wins. I started out with Gordon as my favorite driver because the # on his car is 24 and that is the date that I was born on. That # has always been lucky for me and I think that Gordon is not only a great driver but a great person also and the #24 seems to be lucky for him also. He is a great role model for children and the majority of his fans are women and children. He is also doing great things for sick children with the opening of his children's hospital and the Jeff Gordon Foundation. Check out his web site.Welcome to Nascar and good luck with the driver of your choice!!!

Because most of the fans (not all) tend to be blue collar workers, middle class. They have worked hard to get where they are in life and appreciate what they have...where as Jeff Gordon bought his way in and didn't earn his way in like most drivers who have had to work their tails off to get where they are. It has nothing to do with his driving, because he is a good driver, its just the way he got to where he is. He just isn't respected.

He is successful, and he was a good challenge for Big E back in the day...he beats everybodies favorite driver most of the time. He hasn't got it too bad from the haters anymore since Jr. teamed up with him. I like Jeff, he can drive the wheels off a car!

He did not come out of the Southeast. He came out of karting in CA. So he was the outsider, and then became successful, and the old timers did not like that.

Because before he entered cup cars he had everything handed to him and didn't have to work for it like most of the drivers did. His well-to-do pappy bought his boy into racing. Most of the drivers driving today had to scrape together money, parents putting second mortgages on their houses, and going without just so their sons could race.

They are jealous that he has worked so hard and got so far. Unlike Jr. who finally stood up and is being a man. But that is my opinion
