Do home kits to refinish tubs work well?

My tub is severly pitted and stained. Will the kits they sell in home store give good results and will they last? It costs about $400 to have a professional do it. I cannot find any one to put in a plastic tub liner.

It will peel off in about a year

and they are hard to get a nice finish unless you are spraying and that is a real mess

For 400 you could replace the tub, while remodeling your entire bathroom, if you do it yourself

    100 for tub

    200 tile and materials

    100 new pedestal sink

Hard work but very worth it

Look at some books at home depot, its really not very hard

There are lots of tub refinishing kits being sold. Two things to be prepared for if you decide to do this though. First, follow the directions religiously. The cleaning step is the most important. Otherwise, it will peel with the first use. Second, you now need to be careful when cleaning it. The original finish was baked on and very hard. The new surface isn't. Tub liners start at about $600 for just the tub and you still have a thin plastic to deal with.
