organizing, seperating into groups, alphabetising files of cookbooks?

i have hundreds of cookbooks. i want to be able to enter titles and authors, seperate them into groups (microwave, diet, vegetarian, etc, ). and then alphabetize entire contents and/or individual groups by titles. must run on HP home edition or 98. is there a program (free)? that will let me do this? perhaps a library program?

Update:

it can be EITHER free or not, just a good, simple one

Hi, Kelley - If you can use Excel, I'd recommend you just set up a spreadsheet so you can sort it any way you want as well as search for items. I'm not aware of any programs out there that would categorize your books, only recipes themselves.
