It's too early to tell, but it's encouraging that he did well in his first simulated game action this week.
The Jays have been very careful with him in not rushing him back, which likely bodes well for his long-term health. He should be ready for Opening Day and likely as good as ever, but there's now always going to be that slight chance that he again tweaks the elbow. I believe he'll return to being a great closer, but there's still some question as to whether he makes it through the season.

Typically with the kind of surgery he had, it takes a pitcher a year to really come back 100%.
Ryan's not old by any standard, but he's also no kid. He's probably looking at about 18 months from the injury to the point where he'll be completely back to form.

No. The speed at which pitchers return from Tommy John surgery is always a rosy prediction. If I were the Jays, I'd have a back up plan.

He is looking good so far, but I think they will take it slow with him. Next year he can probably let loose.
