http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080314/ap_on_sp_ba_ne...

What do you think of the Yankees/Rays suspension incident?

Update:

O yeah, Girardi wasn't suspended.

My mistake.

Sorry, I mis-remembered!

LOL.

First of all Girardi did not get suspended. That was Johnny Gomes of the Bay Rays. Girardi was just thrown out of the game. I think Shelley was just stupid. Maybe he has something against Japanese players? Bad move by Duncan. And tell your friends that I started the name Bay Rays.

First of all, I hear all of this talk about how 'Gomes got off easy' with a 2 game suspension....what about Duncan? He basically promised retaliation last weekend, then tried to stretch a single into a double, was thrown out by 15 feet, and on top of everything else, demonstrated THE worst slide into 2nd base possible. What he did was premeditated; he knows it, Girardi knows it, and the Rays definately know it. As far as Gomes and Cabrera are concerned: Gomes was defending a teammate. He did so by pushing the guy. He could have done a lot worse. Cabrera was suspended because the Rays claimed to have video proof from the incident showing Cabrera punching Rays 3B Evan Longoria in the back of the head when he wasn't looking. Typical Yankee cheap shot.

And by the way, if you think about it. The incident last weekend that got this whole thing started involved 2 BACKUPS who weren't even going to make the team. So the fact that Duncan went after Tampa's starting 2nd Baseman is completely uncalled for.

i think its a cheap way for revenge after the whole catcher incident-the rays wanted a run and he was in his way, and in the game the other day duncan slid after he knew he was already out and nobody even lifts their cleat on accident if he did it without knowing he shouldnt be in the big leagues-i think all yankee players are not very smart and you will see that the rays will just get revenge by beating them every series - who do you think wants to prove themselves more the Rays or yankees-who suck-and let me ask you guys 1 thing......do you think there would be any yankee fans if they were a losing team?NO. They are not true fans-they only like them when they win-BECAUSE NEW YORKERS ARE THE MOST LOUD AND OBNOXIOUS PEOPLE ON THE FACE OF THE EARTH...............Thats all i have to say-Peace

girardi was not suspended. suspensions are fine, but Gomes who brought the fight to another level got off easy. he should have gotten the same 3 game suspension as Cabrerra.

girardi didn't get suspended he only got fined. i don't think it was fair and i'm pretty upset about the whole thing b/c now on opening day the yanks might have less than 25 men on their opening day roster

It was a Preseason game so in my opinion the supsensions should be started immediately not when the season starts, I can still not see why Gomes gets less than the Yankees players...he has to at least get even punishment.

Source(s): Not a Yankees fan but this is a bad precedent.

It was a dirty play no matter what time of year it was. Duncan pretty much predicted what he was going to do before the game, did it and then denied any foul play. He certainly did not help himself.

They will just appeal it until they play a lousy team.

While I don't condone what Duncan did, the slide on Cervelli was atrocious and unnecessary. As a catcher myself, Cervelli was not blocking the plate badly. In fact, I believe that Johnson should have done a back-door slide instead of barreling over Cervelli.

they all should have been suspended. it was an ugly incident, and they got appropriate punishment for it. so let's see how this carries over when the season starts.

I don't agree with it. It is ridiculous.
