Spiritually Speaking; why is "chatting" against community guidelines?

This one is for you (((Uncle in hiding)))) :)

Update:

When they call this a "community" people will gather, make friends and idle chat, therefore there will be chatting, simple really. :)

Update 2:

Thank you for your answers, you all deserve best. :)

Spiritually speaking, it is almost impossible to give clean, clear answers without some word or expression which could be construed as "chatting". Just having this exchange could be conceived to be such in the Yamsters' eyes. Silly isn't it? That does not put this forum in the same category as a "chat room"! Information is always exchanged best in a more relaxed atmosphere. Otherwise, you could just read the Dictionary! (((Uncle))) (((Soundproof)))

Exactly. It's like Block Watch people coming outside and tattling on anyone who would dare play outside on their block. The TOS are intentionally vague so that the Yahoo! employees can use discretion and remove questions that may obey the letter of the TOS but not the intent. Frankly, anything is a violation if you squint and tilt your head a little. If most of us want to be able to ask questions, but only a few want to be vigilante tattletales and the tattletales are winning, then it's not community moderation. It's bullying. Yahoo! has never been opposed to bullying. I've often asked for help with bullying, and I've seen my friends ask for help as well. I've even seen my own friends bully others, unfortunately. No matter what happens, Yahoo! accepts (and therefore condones) the bullying. EDIT: The reporting problem is NOT just an R&S phenomenon. It's across the board. R&S is probably the busiest category, so it's felt harder here, but the reporters are everywhere. They are concentrated in busy categories. One can still post silly questions in low-use categories, but there are more violations everywhere. I've been violated all over the place.

I agree that chatting like "lol oh my gosh like totally" should be against community guidelines, because usually its not really a question.

Its just that these community guidelines are so strictly enforced by people who do not work for yahoo that things like "Is this a good C++ program for a beginner?" is considered chatting, which obviously it is far from the original "chatting" rule.

I imagine Y/A originally had some wild idea that it would actually be a place where people would ask intelligent questions and get intelligent answers. Let's face it -- chatting would get way more accomplished (spiritually speaking!). <*)))><

They presume to have some higher function. (Them being the people that made the guidelines.

A question is something that anybody could be interested in.

So: "How are you?" is to trivial and does not serve the 'purpose' of this forum.

    But,

"Spiritually speaking: How are you." does imply a higher goal and therefore is allowed.

I'd say...... but that would get me flagged. >:-)

Yeah, apparently questioning the community guidelines is against the community guidelines...

This is a question and answer site, not a forum.

I think it's a silly rule with a large strip of gray and little black and white.

I didn't know it was, but, there are times when chatting would get more accomplished.
