Jehovah's Witnesses why Did those who came to arrest Jesus fell to the ground when Jesus said "I Am He"

John won't let an opportunity go by that shows us that Jesus is God. He is omniscient -- He knows everything. He knew exactly what was going to happen, and He didn't wait for His enemies to get Him. He wasn't hiding behind an olive tree; he went out the gate and met them when they were on their way in. Christ was so humble and so willing in His self-sacrifice. Jesus initiated the confrontation, not Judas. Judas didn't even have an opportunity to open his mouth.

He went out of the gate to meet them as they were coming to get Him. In His omniscience, He had seen Judas make his deal, He had seen them all leave Jerusalem, go down the hill, and then up the Mount of Olives. Then He walked right out and met them. This is the majestic courage of Jesus Christ. What magnificent boldness He displayed in going to the cross for us!

"...Jesus saith unto them, I am He...."

The "He" isn't present in the Greek. So Jesus just says, "I am." Whose name is that? It is God's name.

"As soon, then, as He had said unto them, I am..., they went backward, and fell to the ground."

Jesus wanted us to know Judas was there to show that Judas had no power. All Jesus had to do was say His name and they all went down. The other Gospels dwell on Jesus' agony -- on His knees on the ground in anguish. But not in John's Gospel. Jesus is standing and the whole Roman army is on the ground.

Jesus Christ is God so they fell in fear!!!!!!!

If you actually look up the cross reference to the scripture at John 18: 6 you will notice it points to John 7:46 where it states "The officers replied: “Never has [another] man spoken like this.” They knew he was the "Christ" which is Greek for Messiah. It says nothing about Him being God.

Along similar lines, we could read Philippians 2:9, where the apostle Paul describes what God did after Jesus died and was resurrected. The verse says: "God exalted him [Jesus] to a superior position and kindly gave him the name that is above every other name." If Jesus was God or equal to God before he died and God later exalted him to a higher position, would that not put Jesus above God? Yet how could anyone become superior to God? And if he was God before he died, how can God die? There is no "mystery" here. Jesus is the Son of God.

Also, God always referred to Jesus as his son, and Jesus always referred to God as his father, showing that God was older and had more authority. He also said that he came to do God's will and not his own, showing two wills; his father and his. Two separate wills.

If you want to go on believing that God has three heads, then you must have three too, since you were created in his image!

No, Talk about not being able to read.

Second I am the only Witness to answer, and I get "thumbs down"

Third, based on the question, if I or if another Witness doesn't get 'best answer' it will show that the questioner can't read also.

I can think of two reasons, and neither have to do with worship.

1. It is dark, they are in a group, coming to arrest a criminal. They were expecting a person with fear. When Jesus step forward and answered their question boldly, those closest to Jesus stepped back tripping over the uneven ground or those behind them.

2. Even though they came to arrest Jesus there were many who believed that Jesus was the "King" who came in Jehovah's name.

Just a couple of days earlier the crowds had shouted

(John 12:13) . . .“Save, we pray you! Blessed is he that comes in Jehovah’s name, even the king of Israel!”

Upon meeting the one Jehovah had prophesied about they did obeisance to a King.

If Jesus was suppost to be quoteing Ex 3:14 in Greek, he would have had to say: See the Septuagint.

"ego eimi ho on” "I am the Eternal" or "I am the Being" or "I am the One who Is"

and not just "ego eimi" which only means "I am".

Because Jesus and them are more powerfull or with the

spirit of God which is the holy spirit that lives in them

and when they fell they didn't know he was the one

the only Son first born son of God the Father.

he is, because Jesus made the air

he Jesus made every thing on earth

threw his father God!

Because Jesus Christ is the great "I AM " of the old Testament. The people knew that and fear got to them but many today do not even know Jesus alone to worship Him as thier King and Savior

As so many noted the "he" is not really there in the text. Jesus was once again claiming to be God and they fell before His power. I imagine a few had to go home and change their underwear.

"He" is in [brackets] and does not appear in the Greek Text.

John 18:8

Jesus answered, I have told you that I am [he]: if therefore ye seek me, let these go their way:

Note: Jesus told the arresting party to let the people that were with Him leave.

His words could not be resisted and the disciples left unmolested.

Many people miss this part. Jesus not only said "I AM" He was in total control of what was happening.

it's so simple, isn't it?

Another question, why do JWs feel the need to present God's message as convoluted and hard to understand? Jesus brought his simple message to lay people, surely He meant it to be simple for us in these times.

We don't need an "Organization" separating us from our Lord and bastardizing His message of salvation and Grace.

It is sad that they don't acknowledge Jesus as the "Great I Am"! The evidence is all there in the Holy Bible and yet they choose to distort the truth about the deity of Christ.
