Do you believe Jesus is the Christ, a prophet, just another man, or fiction?

I feel it is necessary to state my belief if I am going to ask yours. Thus, I believe Jesus (Yeshua, Joshua, etc…) is the Christ whom shed his blood for the remission of sins. He died, risen, and ascended into heaven and now sits on the throne of heaven and will be the judge of all mankind.

Update:

RE to *Sian*: You pose a good question that apparently only you noticed. With respect to by brothers and sisters in Christ (regardless to their denominational affiliation), I know their thoughts on Jesus generally speaking. I participate with a group of Christians known as Christian Apologetics, which are defenders of the faith. One time, Paul had went to a forum to bring the message of Christ to a society of pagans. Instead of forcing the audience to read and understand the scriptures (Torah and writings of the Prophets) that Jesus even used to explain why he is the Messiah, Paul used the image of the unknown god that was in the halls to their forum. In order to do this, he had to understand the unbeliever’s belief system. Thus, I posted this question in a place I had figured many unbelievers would be…did I answer your question?

I don't believe Jesus was a God, neither did he claim to be in any of the 44,000 versions of the bible you choose, neither can you find the word 'trinity' unless its something Jimmy Swaggart made up last week. What most Christians don't know, is that you can be a perfect Christian whilst only believing Jesus as a Prophet. That is because the concept on "trinity" is based on hearsay, ask a religious historian scholar.

On the concept of 'original sin', it doesn't make sense to me that someone thousands of years before can be made accountable for something I did today. Also, this concept gives people the wrong idea that they can do any sin they like because Jesus will pay for it. It also means that people are born with sin. How can an innocent child occur the sin of Adam! Before Adam ate the apple, he didn't ask me whether he should take it or not, so why should I be made accountable? This isn't justice. But I do believe God is just so I reject this idea. It is nothing that Jesus said either. It was a concept invented to explain how a so-called "God" can die. Is it even befitting for God to come into human form? God doesn't need food, Jesus does. God doesn't need rest, Jesus does. God doesn't need to go toilet, Jesus did. God is self-sufficient, Jesus isn't.

If you say Jesus was God, then why does it say in the bible that Jesus was fall on his face (prostrating) praying to God? Why would God need to pray to Himself? These are all based on hearsay and it doesn't fit the concept of God anyway.

As for jimboism below me: No, historically, the Romans had trouble with controlling their people, they hadn't unity, so they thought of adopting Christianity because of the Christian brotherhood which would stop their people from fighting with each other. However, they didn't become the orthodox Christian which were the ones at the time, they made their own form of Christianity, which is where western Christianity comes from.

I don't know if he was God or part of a trinity.

There has never been another man like him and there never will be again, that's what I think.

I believe he was the most enlightened man to walk the earth, yes maybe sent here by God. I don't believe we are all born sinners, however.

Much of what is in organized religion makes no sense to me. Everything Jesus said makes perfect sense to me. It's almost incomprehensible that someone could be so enlightened.

Know this, that Jesus said "I am a son of God" not "I am the son of God".

Thank goodness some of his words were written down. What we have amounts to only about 2 hrs of his speaking.

I am reading two books about Jesus now. They are wonderful. One is called The Third Jesus by Deepak Chopra. It's great.

This is a very touchy topic. Everyone has their own belief and will stand up for what they believe in. As to the question, I don't. Growing up as a child I was taught to believe Jesus is our father and we are to obey and respect him. Well, later on in my life I came to the decision that we don't know what really happens when we take that finally breath of air. I guess you can say I am what they call agnostic. I feel as though I need to see some sort of "proof" to really believe that there is someone watching over us.

Well, there is scientific evidence that Jesus was real. However, do I believe that he was the son of God or the messiah? No, I believe he was a prophet or another person who believed in a higher power and convinced others also. I am a buddhist and I believe in Science. Since there is no scientific evidence to prove such an existence, I would have to say, he was just another person looking for a higher power to explain life.

Just another man. I believe that Jesus and Mary Magdalene were married, and they did not marry in secret, in fact, their union was perfectly accepted by everyone. She was one of his close disciples, and possibly since they had so many things in common, they became lovers and finally wedded in Church as God as their witness.

The story of Jesus in the Holy Bible was actually written 40 years after Jesus’ death. His real life story was turned into legend, his birth became a miracle, his mother became the Virgin Mary, and his dutiful wife became a prostitute. The Church needed a "true miracle" in order to persuade people into following the Christianity faith, so they "created" these fabrications, and dismissed the fact that Jesus was a "human" but rather the son of God, born of a virgin birth and died a virgin, he never married nor ever touched another woman because "lust and sex" is a sin.

In addition, Mary Magdalene was believed to be the chosen person to lead Jesus group and continue his spiritual teachings, however, the Church obviously did not want a female leader, so they decided to ruin her reputation by putting her down as a "sinner and prostitute." Jesus and Mary Magdalene were believed to have a son, and he was present at the time of Jesus cruxification, some legends also indicated that they had a daughter named Sarah, who was married to the King of France, and Jesus’ descendants probably survived ‘til this day.

I've had a "personal" relationship with Jesus Christ. I do believe he is the son of God and will rise again to judge the living and the dead. I must also put out there that I'm a slight follower of Jack Van Impe and I do believe that Armeggedon is upon us and probably will be within the next 4 years.

Jesus Christ is one of the 3 Faces of the One True God.

Father - Son (Christ) - Holy Spirit = GOD

    This is my belief.

He is definitely real. Only Cesar has more documentation of his life during that time period than Jesus. Historians talk with such certainty about other historical figures based on a little verbal history and maybe one stone tablet. I don’t see any way you could doubt that Jesus the man existed. No more than you could doubt any well documented historical figure. As to Jesus’ divinity. That is more of a matter of faith.

I believe that Jesus was one of a small handful of enlightened souls who had a direct connection to the energy some choose to call God. I believe that he did offer himself up as a sacrifice to the greater good, as well. So have others throughout history, and other holy people will continue this practice into the future. These beautiful gestures will continue to inspire mankind to strive to be better people in this life, and I honor what they have done.

I wonder if you believe in Jesus Christ why you chose to put this question in the "mythology & folklore" section? Not that I'm complaining - that's exactly where I'd have put it.

As an atheist I suspect there WAS a man named Jesus, and that he did lead and inspire people. As for his miracles I believe that he was probably the ancient equivalent of a spiritual healer/magician sort of a biblical Derren Brown. Obviously back then people would have had no grasp of psychology and taken what they saw at face value.... hence gospels.... then the Bible itself.

*EDIT* - Yes, that answered my question thankyou :-)
