Where did this "100 Year War" phrase come from?
I keep seeing it mentioned every time some Obama fan wants to criticize his campaign. Has there even been a hundred year war since, oh, say, The Hundred Years War between France and England in the 14th century.
This corny phrase must have come out in the latest edition of "Hate America First Monthly." I must have missed that issue.

Talk to your boy, McCain. He said he could see a scenario that had a US presence in Iraq for up to 100 years.

As so typical with democrats, they twisted McCain's statement which said that America would have a "presence" and not a war in Iraq for a 100 years.
Our having a presence in another country for a long time is not something new. We entered Germany and Italy in 1943 (during WWII), Japan in 1945 and Korea in 1950 and have not left yet.

It came out of John McCain's mouth.
"My friends, the war will be over soon … for all intents and purposes—although the insurgency will go on for years and years and years," McCain said yesterday, trying to explain why he said in January that it would be "fine with me" if American troops stayed there for 100 years. "It'll be handled by the Iraqis, not by us," McCain said. So … why will we be there? As spectators? Cheerleaders? Perhaps as bettors?

The Hundred Years War between France and England was originally known as "Operation Speedy Resolution."

I think it's because McCain said the US would be in Iraq for 100 years if necessary.

The "100 years" is a slam on McCain, from his statements in this interview:
Q: President Bush has talked about our staying in Iraq for 50 years — (cut off by McCain)
McCAIN: Make it a hundred.
Q: Is that … (cut off)
McCAIN: We’ve been in South Korea … we’ve been in Japan for 60 years. We’ve been in South Korea 50 years or so. That would be fine with me. As long as Americans …
Q: [tries to say something]
McCAIN: As long as Americans are not being injured or harmed or wounded or killed. That’s fine with me, I hope that would be fine with you, if we maintain a presence in a very volatile part of the world where Al Queada is training and equipping and recruiting and motivating people every single day.

McCain said on Iraq in one of the debates; "If it takes a hundred years to get it done, we will be there 100 years."

It came from McCain, he said that he will keep the soldier in Iraq if it takes a hundred years to win.I think that he was quoting his actual age!

Maybe you should brush up on your politics. It was one of John McCain's clever statements. It was said at a debate when he was asked how long he'd keep our troops in Iraq. It's one of the many reasons he does not have my vote

John McCain was asked how long we would be in Iraq he said 100 years would be fine with him.
