Is it worth it to become a Medical Ward Clerk?

Before I spend the time, money and the effort, is it worth it to become a cerified Medical Ward Clerk. I have the opportunity to take one course (6 semester hours) at my local community college so I can obtain employment as a Ward Clerk at either a hospital or a Nursing Home. Does anyone have an idea of the pay range? Request serious answers, thanks.

I'm an admitting clerk and my mother is a unit clerk (ward clerk) and she makes about a dollar more an hour than I do. The starting pay here in Michigan where I live is about $10-11 an hour depending with shift premium and such. Most places offer benefit packages. I have wonderful health care benefits along with retirement and even tuition reimbursement. I would definitely take the course, many times after doing your clinical hours the hospital you do them at often hires you.

A good and competent ward clerk can make the biggest difference in the world to improve the efficiency of patient care. You will learn a lot in the process as well, which may be a bridge to other careers.
