What do you think is fair for this babysitting job?
I am asked to sit for a family who I used to regularly sit for. The family has three children, ages 11, 9, & 5 (kind of a handfull, dont really follow instructions, have to be firm.) They also have a nice large dog who would need to be fed and walked.
The parents are going away for a week and would need me to stay at their house M, T, W, T, F, & S and then they return on Sunday morning. They family usually pays $12.00 per hour.
I believe that I will have to take the children to school sometimes and other times carpool other children to school as well on some days.
On friday the kids will be at a family members house, so i will stay home with the dog.
they family only keep kosher in the house, and i dont eat kosher, and am not allowed to bring ANYTHING into the house as far as food goes.
on saturday, one kid will stay the night at another persons house, and two of the other kids will have friends over to stay the night.

$500 at least.
Personally, I think this is still low. I figure if it was a regular 40 hr workweek at $12/hr it would be $480, so they would actually be getting a good deal at $500. You might say $500 + expenses (gas, food, etc)

I have done this before as a job and it is quite a big job AND being a mother my self I KNOW that too.
Do not be afraid to ask for more money due to the big responsibility you are getting over your shoulders (not only their kids, but the dog, &&&& someone elses kids!.
I do not know where are you located, but here in Dallas, TX a job like that is not done with out leaving anything in writing and notarized to protect you in case of any problem that you may have (accidents, medical issues, dog running away.. I don't know whatever.. you never know).
Please ask them to put everything that they want you to do in writing and sign an agreement with rules and regulations, yours and their responsibility...
Gas and millage is another point to consider when calculating how much you want to get paid for this MAYOR job.
in Dallas, TX not less than $18.00 per hour. Let them know that $12 per hour it is not a fair pay and that if they were to hire a Nanny service it will cost them 2X more of what they are expecting to pay... not to mention a full year of pay they ask for deposit.
GOOD LUCK my friend!!

I would charge around $250 - 300 (about a weeks pay) and insist that you be allowed to bring your own food. Explain that you won't be giving any to the children and you will keep it contained in your sleeping area, but a week of not eating normal food?
