does anybody else(not a republican!) think obama gives bad speeches?or is it just me?
everyone goes crazy about obama, but every time i listen to him, i start disliking him. i'm not sure why, but to me, hilary clinton makes a better impression in her speeches. if he's just quoted or his views are published, i think he might be the best candidate. but while listening to him, he loses my support. maybe it's just his speech writers, or maybe i need more sleep:)

He is generally bombastic, preachy, vague. Its better to read his speeches instead of watching him effecting the entire "look at me im a statesman in waiting" act. When you remove the showbusiness, he is not a great orator.
He's supposed to be "dumbing down" his speeches for voters in PA. Democrats there are white, working class, and aged. They appreciate details, which Clinton provides but which Obama rarely does. Even when he does get nailed down to specific his campaign has to clarify what he said the next day. His reputation as a flip flopper expands everyday.

Obama's speechwriter is good, but Obama has a lot of hesitancy in debates and off-the-cuff speeches.
I am a college-educated Pennsylvanian and I am tired of people implying that we are somehow all stupid. I have an IQ of 143 and I am voting for Clinton because she knows what she is doing.
Due to our extensive Municipal government system (we have more Municipal governments than any other state), Pennsylvanians have to keep abreast of politics, so we are generally very well-informed.
In addition, we usually don't have much say (late primary), so everyone here is trying very hard to become even more informed and make the right decision.
PA people are overwhelmingly interested in the economy right now. We want to hear specifics about what the candidates plan to do. That is why people here are liking Hillary's comments more than Obama's.

I've noticed that Obama does much better when reading his speeches from a teleprompter. When interviewing or answering questions off the cuff, he stammers and searches for an answer. I am NOT a Hillary supporter, but she and McCain are more articulate than Obama - neither need a teleprompter or written speech to convey their thoughts coherently. JMO.

No, it's not just you. I'm a democrat, and I'm sick and tired of his speeches. Unfortunately, I voted for Obama in my state's primary on Feb. 4th and wish I hadn't. Since then, I've come to see how substanceless he is. Sure, on the surface, his speeches sound good AT FIRST until you realize there's not much substance underneath the so-called eloquence. If you start disliking him when you listen to him, perhaps it's because at some level you're not sure that you can trust what he says. (Also, for someone who's supposed to be so "eloquent", he certainly has said a number of stupid things lately.) As for Hillary, she's a stronger debater than Obama and her speeches, to me, don't seem as empty as Obama's speeches do. Just my opinion.

He doesn't say anything in his speeches. Sure they are flowery and enthusiastic like a high school pep rally (Go! Team! Go! - Change we can believe in) But he is all flash and no substance. That is why you think Clinton is making a better impression, agree with her or not, at least she has some substance to what she is saying. Thank God other people are finally noticing and saying something about this.

It's just you. Obama gives moving speeches and backs them up with results. Here's a brief summary of Obama's legislative record in the US Senate (see Hillary's on her website):
• In 3 years in the United States Senate, Senator Obama sponsored and co-sponsored 570 bills, of which 15 became law.
• In his first year in the United States Senate, he authored 152 bills.
• He has introduced amendments to 50 bills.
• Significant bills passed into law: Obama-Feingold Lobbying and Ethics Reform Act, Coburn-Obama Government Transparency Act and Lugar-Obama Nuclear Non-proliferation and Conventioanl Weapons Threat Reduction Act
• Subjects of Senator Obama's bills introduced, but not passed into law: Foreign Policy (12), Public Health (3) including elimination of all lead in toys sold in the U.S., Government Accountability (2), Health Care (21), Needs of Armed Forces (2), Energy Efficiency and Climate Change (25), Congressional Ethics and Accountability (12), Education (11), Homeland Security (2), Discrimination (4), Mortgage Issues/Economy (2).

Agreed. Her speeches have more class than his too. I watched Obama say 'she's desperate blah blah' (right before he got burned for the Wright controversy too haha), and then all I heard were polite things from her towards her opponent. He's got bad sportsmanship.

You'd probably have to have a built-in positive image of him already in your mind or appreciate rhythmic, soulful preaching type speech like televangelist do. I thought his Lincoln-esque beginning of the 'race speech' was cheesy and I think all of his speeches come off as televangelist-like.

Well he talks slow and pauses every few words. But I think it works good for the people that are slow on the uptake.

He is so full of hot air.
But that might just be me. I like specifics and detail and knowledge. I can't stand fluff.
