My cat has blood in her urine.?

She is diabetic, and gets insulin shots every day. She is 13, and just developed these issues in the past 4 months. Today, I noticed bright red blood in the litter box in her urine. She also missed the box a few times since last night. Other than that, she looks fine, is not lethargic, not in pain, and has a healthy appetite. It is Sunday, so I can not take her to the vet tonight, I will take her first thing tomorrow. Just wondering if anyone has any ideas of what this is?

Update:

Please, serious answers only. It is not funny to ask if she is on her period. This is very unsensitive of you to try to laugh about this. And yes, I did say that I am taking her to the vet!

This is probably just a urinary tract infection. It does need a vet visit for a round of antibiotics, but that truly is the most likely cause, especially if she's missing the box.

Less likely would be stones or crystal, but still quite treatable.

It's an excellent sign that she has no other symptoms.

    Good luck!

I am writing to tell you what an incredible impact these methods had on my life! I have had type 2 diabetes for 27 years. For me, the worst part of this horrible disease is the severe pain I constantly get in my feet. The pain is so bad that I avoid standing and walking as much as possible. I've got to tell you that within the first month, my feet stopped hurting altogether and I can now walk totally pain free.

Believe it or not, I even danced at my niece's wedding last month, something I have not done in a many years. I've been following the book for six months now and my blood sugar is well within normal range. I feel great!

I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

Could be advanced bladder infection, but I don't know anything at all about the diabetic part.

I'd be real concerned, is there an emergency vet you can call? Animals don't show pain the way that we do...try watching her when she goes to see if she is straining. If she is going a lot this is also a sign of bladder infection.

Be sure she's drinking to keep the pee diluted, and get her to the vet first thing in the morning!!

With the newer types of insulin these days, diabetic diets aren't necessarily as restrictive as they used to be. Read here https://tr.im/IClGp

As with any medicine or diet change, you should discuss it with your doctor. Fruits, both fresh and dried, have a natural sugar in them that will raise blood sugar levels, so be careful about eating too much. Not sure about the nuts. Moderation is always the key. I've been diabetic for 18 years and just recently changed insulin types. I love it because it gives me more freedom in when and what I eat.

hopefully its just urine infection.. keep a close eye on her give her lots to drink.

BUT if she squats in the litter tray but doesn't seem able to pass urine then I suggest a visit to the emerency vets.. could be a calicum crystal blocking the urether and that could be fatal if not treated immediately.

Take her to the vet ASAP. My cat had those symptoms for a day, so we took her to a vet. She had serious liver and kidney problems and died in surgery. She was only 2, and she was in great shape and very healthy. Your cat is older, so I'm sorry to say that she might not make it, but be very loving to her through everything.

she either has a blocked urinary tract or she has a urinary tract infection...either way im glad you are taking her in tomorrow this cant wait much longer...my sisters cat died of blockage because it went un noticed for several days and it was too late by the time she took him...good luck and consider using Purina One for Urinary Tract health if this is the problem...it works great my cat had uti's and since i have him on this food no more problems for 2yrs now
