Why will people vote for McCain as President?
Robert Scheer
the San Francisco Chronicle
Wednesday, April 16, 2008
Are Americans unusually stupid, or is it something our president put in the water? As millions surrender their homes and sacrifice other standards of our nation's economic and political reputation to the caprice of the Bush-Cheney imperium, a majority of voters tell pollsters that they might vote for a candidate who promises more of the same.
Assuming likely voters are not now thinking of yet another Republican president simply because John McCain is the only white guy left standing
It is not my opinon.
But I do think McCain have Alzheimer disease
"has"
or maybe senile

I don't think it's fair to say that it's because he's the only white guy left. About half the country considers themselves a Republican by name already, so their votes will be for the Republicans no matter how bad the Bush-Cheney years have been. It's the Democrats who are pushing him over the edge. They picked the two most controversial candidates they could think of for the nomination and unsurprisingly it's caused a lot of Dems to become overly passionate about their first choice candidate. It's that 20-30% of Obama/Clinton supporters who say that they'll vote for McCain if their candidate isn't chosen that are the problem. Likewise, a lot of Independents are looking at this mess and saying to themselves "I want no part of this." Had the Dems been smart and picked a strong, moderate candidate they would have this in the bag.

Quoting Scheer in Politics is like quoting Freud in psychoanalysis, both are beyond their expiration date.
Victimizing the borrowers who arguably had full knowledge of the risk and cost of the loans they entered into (INCLUDING MYSELF!) by thumbing a nose at any administration is simply more leftist blame-assignation that is old, tired and downright European.
The fact that many people WILL make their payments and WILL keep their homes is a testament to the hard work and smarts our country is known for (and detested for in some circles east of Bermuda). I wonder how many people own their own home in France, or Italy, or Germany. Anyway, McCain is about as Bushian as Jimmy Carter, he's got enough liberal corpuscles running through him to satisfy the rabid blame dogs that teeter on the precipice of American failure arm and arm with Soros, Maher, Gore and Clooney and feel free to slate in your delusional 'blabberal' of the day...
Presidents don't drive you into bankruptcy or foreclosure single-handedly, YOU do usually. Presidents can't fix a nation of overeaters and chainsmokers and philanderers, but each individual sure can have a say as to the general health of the nation.
Bush and Cheney are about as relevant to today's economic and political issues as Hoover and Curtis. It's a much larger machine with more moving parts and international influencers than two boys from Texas and Wyoming could ever hope to manage with their aggregated and feeble imaginations.
A Democratic President who says he/she will get soldiers out of Iraq is full of horse manure. It's a promise that is empty for a vote that is sure. At least those who confront the reality on the ground and the likelihood that troop deployment will continue sometime longer are telling you TRUTH vs promising you FICTION.
That's the problem with the Scheer crowd, they think a good candidate tells them what they want to hear, not standing up for what's pragmatic and realistic, regardless of the uproar.
Enjoy your promise seeking, when the chips fall, it will lead to more (expected) whining from the logical direction for such outbursts...the LEFT.

McCain is not centrist. He is against a woman's right to choose for one thing. Also he wanted to allow the UAE, an ARAB country, the right to buy control over USA ports, how is that tough on national security? The problem with the Republicans right now is not that there is something horribly wrong with traditional Republican ideals. I like the idea of being fiscally conservative. The Republicans right now will lie, lie and lie again. The reasons for going to war with Iraq were lies, sure Saddam sucked, but that wasn't why they said they were going in there.
McCain has managed to pull the wool over too many people's eyes, but considering that Bush was re-elected after 4 years of idiocy, I am sadly not that surprised anymore at the gullibility of the American people.

Your Democrat choices would both open the borders wide (so would McCain), raise taxes astronomically high, keep our troops in harm's way and subsidize everything.
Fortunately, there is another choice: Ron Paul.
Ron Paul would bring our troops home, repair the health care system, stop subsidizing illegal immigration and allow you to keep your entire paycheck by changing our foreign policy and cutting government waste.
A vote for Ron Paul is a vote for common sense.

Are Americans unusually stupid? Do they think that by voting Hillary or Obamma into office millions of people that made poor financial decisions will suddenly be given their homes back? Or that gas will increase in supply and the cost will go down $1.00 a gallon? Do they think that Bin Laden will suddenly surrender? Do they think that Iran will suddenly comply with the international community?

It is amazing to me how ignorant some people are. And i'm speaking of yourself. Have you ever heard of the issues? And by insinuating that people that vote for republicans are only doing it so they can vote for a white guy is a HUGE INSULT!!!! Just because you don't agree with Republicans doesn't mean that they don't have legitimate reasons to vote for a Republican instead of a Democrat. As far as listing the reasons. I'm tired of spending 5 min. answering a dumb ? from people like you. Maybe one day you'll realize that most people today vote on the issues. And that there are usually differences of oppinion between republicans & democrats!

As millions surrender their homes? Funny but the people I see in major trouble are the ones that have two or more homes in the bubble areas that paid more than what the home is worth hoping to turn a quick buck in resale. I'm sorry but these people and the institutions that lent them the money can go down. I have no sympathy for idiots that thought paying more than what a home is worth was a great investment.
As for reputation....whose standard are we looking at here....Europe? Well I'm sorry but I could give a rat's behind about their opinions about the USA just as they could care less about our opinions of them. Africa loves Bush because of his insight on the true death dealer there....malaria.

This is just one way of looking at it, but a major reason why a lot of people would vote for McCain is because they would rather have him than Clinton, Obama, or any other Democrat appointing the replacements for Supreme Court Justices John Paul Stevens and Ruth Bader Ginsburg.

LOL, Americans are stupid, obviously. Though they "say" they don't want war and yet, they are all gung-ho about McCain. I just don't get it.
McCain isn't about the people, he's about the status, he's about control, he's about keeping this ridiculous war going to prove that his keeper, GWB was right.
Any thinking American knows this isn't right.

Dude, If you're going to post from the opinions section of a newspaper, and your comment is directed at conservatives and republicans, don't use the San Francisco Chronicle. In fact, don't use any newspaper from San Francisco. Get some sense.
