my father died and he had a safety depost box. The box was in both of our names Do I have to share what is in?

with my sister. He had not talked to her in 7 years but she was named the main person on the will and me second. Before he died he said he never got a round to changing the will. The will doesn't state the safety depost box and I know for sure he wouldn't want her to have it. What now?

Update:

Yea she found out what is in it. I do not beleive my father would have wanted her to have a thing and I'm not going to give her nothing. Her name could ave been on the box to and she should have known avout it to. She showed up after years and he even made her leave the hospital room. There wasn't much in it but I know he didn't want her to have anything this was beween us.

I'd contact an estate attorney for their of it. Inheritance, wills and trusts can get pretty sticky and are subject to very strange rules sometimes. In the mean time I would not mention the existence of the safe deposit box to anyone.

You will have to discuss the box with your sister. Does not matter what the law states or your personal opinion of the issue but morally you should discuss and share the info with your sis.

Divide the contents of the box according to value into two of you as dependents.

you have to follow the will. hear say is not admissible in legal cases and you could be held in contempt of probate if you do not disclose the box and it comes to the courts attention
