Certain woods poisonous to cats?
I want to make some natural looking cat scratchers and trees for my cats with wood that we found on a plot being clear-cut for construction. One has that distinctive christmas tree smell and I am still trying to identify the other two before letting my cat-kids near them. Does anyone know any good sites for tree identification and also what types of tree bark/wood is poisonous? I have looked at the aspca toxic plant list but it tends to be predominantley house or garden plants and not trees. Any help would be great...thanks!

a vet screening isn't out of the question, as nutrition issues may be a factor. Also, check his teeth. If he has never had a cleaning done then he may be due. His gums may be sore and he could just be trying to relieve some pain. Pet Stages makes cat chew toys that crinkle like bags but are safe to chew on. They also make kitten teething toys that you can soak in water and freeze which will sooth sore gums. as for pooping outside the litter box, this could simply be because of the color of the floor, there may be some litter on the floor, or he just plain missed. A vet screening will take care of medical concerns. as for stupid things cats do, my oldest kitty likes to chew on wrapping paper ribbons. the cheaper they are they better they chew according to her. I have to be careful during the holidays or the presents under the tree are covered in cat spit and hair. She also likes the protective bags my husband puts on his comic books. Go fig, cats are quirky.
