I ask God for wisdom.......he usually hands it me ......when I am faced with decisions, and need guidance
You could attain wisdom from life experiences......however, I find it to be very limited and not always reliable.

Before I specifically answer your question , I will say this- there is a difference between knowledge and wisdom- which of course you probably already know- Knowledge is what you learn, and wisdom is how you live out what you know. True wisdom only comes from God- and so you can only truly attain it with a personal relationship with Christ- it is attained first from the hand of God, then was you purpose to live it out in your life.

Good question. God says in James 1 that if you lack wisdom ask God[pray] and He will give it for He is generous and gracious to all. Solomon in Proverbs says that wisdom is the principal or main thing; so get it. But make sure you get understanding too. Solomon received wisdom supernaturally. Some people are wise in their own eyes. They think they can outsmart everyone. I like the series Master Minds. However, some people are street wise. They have had many lessons, having taken courses at the University of Hard Knocks. Book wise people are everywhere for most of us go to school and later college. However, we are all fools if we are not wise towards God.You can amass great wealth and a cyclone, tsunami, stock crash, home invasion, identity theft or ill health can snatch it all away.Wisdom is a supernatural [prophecy] gift/ability; but life experiences makes it more precious.

Wisdom, quite often, comes from living life's experiences. Some people live their whole lives without gaining much wisdom. What a waste. Typically driven by selfish intentions.
A life alive and rich with experiences seems to be the keys to wisdom.
It is also a sin not to share these experiences and musings. Sharing is like the toppings on the ice cream Sunday - to give is to receive. Believe it, my friend. Truly, twice blessed are those who give of themselves.

you can be handed wisdom, and live by it, but you won't understand it until you experience life. if you go too long without having experience validate the wisdom, you will begin to question it, and possibly discard it.
i never touched a hot burner on the stove, because as a small child i was warned away (handed wisdom). i was told it would hurt me, so i left it alone. but i didn't really understand what it meant until i burned myself on something else. then i was able to see that the wisdom was correct and use it with confidence. had i never been burned at all by now (i'm 32), i would probably have tried to touch the hot burner just to see if what i was told were true.

You can be handed knowledge. Wisdom must be attained from experience - it is the ability to properly use knowledge.

You can be handed wisdom but it requires you to accept it as such. As an older man can impart his wisdom to a young one, if that young one appreciates and accepts, he has saved himself years of work. If he rejects "the old fool" he gains nothing but a hard time.
The same can be said of the Bible's wisdom.
It also needs to be applied in the young ones life by understanding what is said. That is what wisdom means.

only the very wise can gain wisdom as a handed thing. So a basic amount of wisdom is necessary to get there.

both...
1. Adam and Eve handed us wisdom. When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom
2. Solomon's Wisdom. God gave Solomon wisdom and very great insight, and a breadth of understanding as measureless as the sand on the seashore.
3. Through Jesus to give his people the knowledge of salvation through the forgiveness of their sins.
4. Give me wisdom and knowledge, that I may lead this people, for who is able to govern this great people of yours?"
5. Finally, now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it.

Most of us suffer from accidental flashes of lucidity.
But not often enough to make it a nuisance.
I've seen wisdom come from the most unexpected quarter. And if no one who has the wisdom to recognize it as wisdom hears it, does it still make a noise?
