All the time! That's a big reason why job hunting can be stressful...all the rejection. You can work like crazy getting together the perfect application and never hear back from them. Even worse, you can be invited in for an interview, think everything's going great, only to hear that someone else got the job.
Don't let it get you down. Remember, job hunting is a numbers game. The more you put applications and resumes out in the hands of employers, the more likely you are to get called in for an interview.
And don't take rejection personally. Who knows what your competition was like? Perhaps you were applying for the same job as the owner's nephew.
Instead, if you do get rejected, take the time to go over your application and figure out what you could have done better. Review the questions in the interview: how could you have been better prepared? Did you know what kind of position and what kind of company you were applying for? Did you ask good questions about the position?
You can even ask the person who interviewed you for suggestions about how to improve how you present yourself. And don't forget to thank them for their time, even if you didn't get the job. They may remember you the next time around.
I couldn't begin to count the number of times I didn't get a job I applied for, especially if you count the times I mailed or faxed or delivered a resume and never heard back. Rejection is just going to be a part of the process.

This year was my first year teaching but trying to get hired was like hell!!! It took months. I went on at least 8 different interviews and filled out at least 50 applications. At times, thinking I did great and others wanting to go and hide in a hole. But I knew I was well qualified and I'm great at what I do. Just don't give up! Try broadening your options while keeping to what you want to do. Good luck!

Several times. Nobody gets every job they're offered! If you're not suited for it, don't know enough about it, or not qualified for it, you won't get it.
