Cutting a dogs tail off to avoid aggression??????? WTF?

Ok, I usually don't care what other people answer on here BUT I had to bring this to surface. i just answered a question on Pitbulls and someone had the nerve to say " you must cut off a Pitbulls tail to avoid aggression!"

How can people be allowed to answer on here when they clearly have no idea what they are talking about????

So what do you think...should Pitbulls have their tails cut off so they can be more "calm" and not so "aggressive"????

* Cutting off a Pitbulls tail = 35 drinks*

Update:

These are some ways to avoid aggression...not cutting off the tail.... ( http://www.dog-answers.com/Preventing-Dog-to-Dog-A... )

Haha I saw that, I just assumed maybe it was some analogy or something like instead of "cutting the tail she meant "cut the slack". But that was just hoping someone isn't that stupid.

Now that i looked at her profile, maybe she got "lost". She answers questions on "glowing makeup"?!?!

The docking of dogs tails is a practice which has been carried out for centuries in order to avoid tail damage, for hygiene and other reasons. Today there are over fifty traditionally docked breeds which are recognised by various Kennel Clubs. A number of working gundog breeds have to hunt game through heavy vegetation and thick brambles, where their fast tail action can easily lead to torn and bleeding tails which are painful and extremely difficult to treat. Docking the end of the tail eliminates the risk of injury. Working terriers are docked for the same reason. In addition, terriers which are bred to hunt below ground for purposes such as fox control, have their tails docked to a length which is more practical when working in a confined space. Other non-working breeds which have an enthusiastic tail action, are also liable to damage their tails, even in the home. Since docking was banned in Sweden in 1989, there has been a massive increase in tail injuries amongst previously docked breeds. Within the 50 undocked Pointer litters registered in that year with the Swedish Kennel Club, 38% of dogs suffered tail injury before they were 18 months old and in 1991, the number of individuals with tail injures had increased to 51% of the group.

Docking a dogs tail has no effect on their temperment - it's strickly a cosmetic thing that some people feel is necessary to do. I think ear cropping and tail docking is an unnecessary procedure. Leave the dog the way he was born. Aggression in dogs is all in the way the dog is raised and treated by their humans.

You just now noticed the lack of three digit IQs?

Studies on reasons for tail and ear dockings have shown conclusively that the oft stated reasons why such as safety, etc are false and that doing so is detrimental to a dog, including working dogs, and is done solely to change the appearance of a dog.

That's one of the most stupidest things I've ever heard.

Does a dogs anger live in their tail? Does having a tail make the dog vicious? Does having a tail make the dog kill?

OH so the tail must be why dogs attack! Yes! -.-

    So stupid.

I love Pit's, by the way.

How could anyone be so silly? Weather a dog has a tail or not, they'll still be agressive. They could cut a pitbulls tail off, and train it to fight, and it would still be agressive with or without a tail

I've never heard that one before. :o

I've met people who seem to think that cutting off their tails somehow prevents cancer, although they don't seem to have an explanation for it.. they just heard it from "someone, somewhere."

I also found an interesting article related to this!

In it is the claim that cutting of a dog's tail LEADS to aggression, because they have trouble communicating their moods without a tail.

Hahaha. I am cracking up. Maybe they figured that the dog's brain was in the tail, and that it was like a lobotomy, and that would stop the dog from being "aggressive", who knows. Some people are nuts.

    Good site, though.

My border collie worked as a sheep dog for half of his life and his tail was cut off when he was a puppy. They cut off working dogs' tails so that they will be more focused when working. I'm not sure if it really has an impact on their aggression level though. My dog was very happy and affectionate and obedient....so obviously his tail being cut off didn't traumatize him .

Lol that's what happens when people to pretend to be something they are not. I love when people answer and say that they are a vet tech or a doctor and you read their other questions and it's like "omg i think this boy likes me what do i do?" That's why when an answer looks silly I always read their previous questions/answers. But I guess anything goes here on answers.
