No Stimulus Chk-Invalid name at Soc Sec?

This is going to be another reason for not receiving stimulus checks. I was married last year & didnt register my marriage name change with the Soc Sec Admin. Our tax refund was received on time but our stimulus check will not be sent due to 'invalid name or soc sec number'. The IRS says there is no fix for this except to do the soc sec name change & file an amended return?? so that we can apply for the payment on next years tax filing. Does this make sense? Why file an amended return? What reason do I use? It will be identical to my original return.
